You need to reset your body clock.
simple. drink Camomile Tea (ideally two teabags in one cup) a couple of hours before going to bed, and you'll have a wonderful long deep sleep
Do you have neighbours making a noise at the time you wake, however slight the noise is it can wake you as I know from my experience sadly?
Sorry its very hard for me to do sensible at that time of the morning

My neighbours do find it impossible to close doors quietly - but I don't think that's it. I will try the camomile tea. And don't worry 4getmenot, you are forgiven. Already have blackout curtains and don't take phone to bed ..... had got up when posted my question ...... and no - am not over 80!!!
As a professional insomniac, you have my sympathy.
No matter what time I go to bed, I always wake between 4.40 and 4.45am.
When I go to bed I don't so much drop off to sleep as fall into a coma, but no matter how tired I am I still wake at the same time. Once I am awake, I have to get up.
Sometimes I come downstairs, have a milky drink and then go back to bed and read quietly. After 30 minutes if I haven't gone back to sleep (most days) I get up and stay up.
I have even taken a sleeping pill at 4.30am. This made me sleep soundly for all of 30 minutes and I felt foggy brained all day.
I have learned to live with it (I had all the ironing done by 5.30 this morning!)
Sounds like me at the moment mrs overall
oops, sorry wrong thread
it may be we all once did this

4get gave the answer; if you set alarm for earlier till you are reliant on the alarm. You can then extend sleep according to alarm.

(hows u 4get - not long now) ;)
