Is there a group on here at all? I did search, but cannot find one.

It's day 15 for me, and I've come very close to breaking down and lighting up, but just typing this has helped me to see the folly of my ways!

I'm not throwing 15 days away for a fag!
Would be great if there was a cheer squad/support group here, so please point me in the right direction if I've missed it.

Meanwhile, 20 a day at almost 8 quid a pack has saved me £120 already. Unimportant, however when the craving really hits!

Congrats VV!

I gave up smoking last April, though only by switching to ECigs., not sure whether that's a route you want to go down or not.

But no, as far as im aware there isn't a group on 'here, are you thinking something along the lines of the weight loss one?

Maybe a good idea to start one and smile winsomely at the Ed? Maybe he'll sticky it for you?
You're doing really well and as you've managed 15 days there's no reason why you should ever start again.
I used NIquitine tablets to stop. The problem is that I've just changed one way of getting nicotine for another.
are you still using the ecigs boo?
Just wanted to say well done! Think you have done really well so far.
That's excellent!

Someone told me about a spray that is supposed to be really good? I'm not a smoker myself, so can't really speak from experience, but I did once read that nicotine is one of the hardest drugs to give up - so massive well done to you :-)

Good idea about the group, although I'm not sure how many smokers (wanting to quit) there would be at any one time.
Maybe it could be a general addiction group? Actually, I think that's a really good idea.

Boo may I ask which e-cigs you have tried or recommend, was there not some controversy recently about them?
Brilliant V-v. Well done. Keep going, it i[will] get better and easier as time goes on, believe me. Just keep thinking of the £2920 you'll have saved when you tick off your first year.

I'm off them for 9 and a half years now. Reckon I've saved nearly £20k in that time. And I'm considerably fitter.
Yeah McFluffy. I see no reason not to.

I enjoy it, its miles cheaper, less antisocial, and a lot less (though not infallible) harmful to me :-)
I use this one vakayu...

Dunno about any controversy?
i avoided the pub many years ago when i gave up, now i'm sat on my own and everyone else is outside

Thanks BOO and sandyRoe. :-)

I'm on the e-cigs, BOO and doing OK. It's just from time to time I waver a bit! I also use nicorette gum when it gets bad....... Haven't tried the tabs sandyRoe, I think I need immediate action with a bad craving and somehow gum seems more immediate than the tabs?? At least I can chew like a maniac and it helps a bit!
Thanks for that info boo, there are so many around now it's mind boggling, nice to get a user's recommendation.
You have done it. The chemical addiction only lasts for 72 hours.

You are now a non-smoker again - just as you were when you were young and healthy before you started.

You have gained so much now - not just the £8 a day
You must want to be a non-smoker
So enjoy being one
And just feel sorry for the sad old suckers standing around in pub doorways
Well done Vv......might be a good idea to avoid the e-cigs. I gave up a few months ago then decided to try e-cigs when I weakened at about the same point as you. Now I have to give up the e-cigs!
You look better...smell better..have more money and you can join aelmpvw in the pub.
Seriously I can't see what i can say to help you other than bloody well done and please keep it up. x

Yay! Thanks for your encouragement people! It really is helpful when one is considering a fag!

I'm over the "hump" for now....feeling all clean and knowing just WHY I have stopped. I'm sure the next craving isn't far away, but thanks guys! :-))
I'll be back, no doubt (sadly).
I found the Nicotine patches were brilliant - until I began to react to them and had horrible red itchy patches all over ( well, not quite all over) so had to stop or go mad itrching - has anyone found an antidote ?

Yes, gness, the e-cig thing concerns me a bit. It looks so much like a cig that it isn't exactly like giving up the "prop".
One day at a time, I think, and hopefully this was my bad moment for today.........
I must admit, though, that I'm waiting for bedtime so I can go to sleep and escape the cravings........
vv

sit somewhere quiet
shut your eyes

think about a time when you were a non smoker before you started
a time when you were happy, young, healthy, clean

Take a deep breath
Notice how clean your system is again
How it has been repairing itself after all that silly abuse

Notice how you're going to enjoy being free
enjoy being with your loved ones for longer than you would if you'd stayed an abuser of your system
enjoy having more money
enjoy not being self conscious of smelling bad, having bad breath
and above all enjoy not being self conscious of your stupid, weak minded habit

You were a smoker once.

Now enjoy that you are in control again.

Thank you zeuhl.

It makes sense and I feel better for reading. I am a non smoker (ex smoker!).

Still remains one day at a time, but my 15 days will be 16 tomorrow, which is cool!
Hey good for you!! I gave up my 50 a day habit 7 years ago, best thing I ever done.

Just remember, just when you think you have cracked it and finally given up for good, temptation creeps in, maybe just the one cigarette wont hurt! don't do it, that is the killer and before you noticed you will be a full time smoker again, just really not worth the risk.
