I know I'm Irish and we have our legs on upside down but.....since starting on the statins in November my legs and feet have started to swell...no pitting but quite a lot of fluid. Never had this problem before. BP is fine.
Struggled to look good in the black trousers last week so I stopped taking them five or six days ago. Still some swelling but I'm sure the statins are to blame...I think.
Do you have an opinion please? Gx

Just had a nap and woke up to see your post

I feel that is unlikely, very unlikely that your problems with swelling of the legs and feet is anything to do with your taking statins.

My feeling is that it is postural due to you slipping into high heels to relieve your intermittent claudication ( leg pains)

Go to see your GP who may well prescribe a mild diuretic.

Thank you Sqad.......I was hoping you wouldn't say that but thought it possible.
The worry with taking pills is that one ends up in a circle of taking more and more.
I will speak to my GP on Monday...I do like this new phone and discuss system.
But...my decision may be chubby legs or painful legs and fool that I am....vanity will win.

Many thanks again......Gx
;-)..........no problem..............you don't get that problem with so.ll French knickers.......they are loose around the thighs allowing easy access ( of blood return).

I once heard that Irish girls have a dispensation from the pope to wear their thighs below their knees. So don't worry!!
(I hope you won't be offended).

No offence at all Abstibus......first thing we look at when a new girl is born.....Has she got the Irish legs on? Gx
So.....high heels and French knickers it is.

That ensemble wouldn't be complete without hold ups......after all they're far more beneficial than trousers in your current state.....

Did I say that out loud?

Hi Chill.......high heels....French knickers.... and hold ups...if and only if the hold ups don't create more muffin tops. ;-) x
gness, I get fluid retention from time to time and the GP has told me that I can just take the water tablets as and when I need them, not all the time. I don't think there's any relationship to the statins, which I've had on and off for some years. The fluid retention only began last summer.

Would flight socks help?
Flight sox and French knickers, the mind boggles - but yes they would, I wear an ankle bandage sometimes to keep the fluid moving.
Question Author
Hi Boxy....this is the first time I've been taking pills for a condition and the first time I have ever had fluid retention but also the first time I've worn heels all the time so I'm a bit dithery.
Can I buy diuretics and do you take statins just from time to time?
Question Author
Oh my hat!!!! Red high heels.....French knickers....hold ups...and flight socks!
What if fire breaks out and I'm rescued looking like that?

May give flight socks a try but would like to get rid of the fluid altogether.
Gness, the diuretics are on prescription from the doc, I'm not sure if they are available OTC but I think I'd be cautious about dosing myself with something like that.... The statins should be taken all the time to have effect - my "on and off" over the years was because I had a severe muscle reaction to earlier brands/dosages (which is not an uncommon side effects) so I came off them for a while until the pain settled.
Question Author
Thanks Boxy...I was told about the muscle pain but I had none so I was fine taking them til the swelling started. Like Sqad said..a chat with the GP. x
I am going to add to the glamour mix and suggest cabbage leaves bandaged on overnight. Worked for me, but the fireman had the best laugh since the Parfumerie went on fire and the bottles exploded.
Maybe your legs are swollen because you are holding your stomach in?

....runs away in a zigzag manner to avoid flying axe.....
Remember to embroider GUINNESS on the socks [i]joins mrs_o under the table[i]

Am now going to dip celery stalks in ginger tea and put up curtain rails. x
Cabbage leaves are excellent therapy for sore boobs, gness (you might want to keep that for future reference, LOL)
