Well my dads all for herbel remadys and saving money,The best tip he gave me was to use zinc an casteroil to protect my skin which iv used for years .But with the last few weeks being so hot iv used it and gone straight brown in stead of bright red,When my friends asked me how i go brown i told them but they didnt take my advice now there red an peeling an im brown although i do moisterise to stop me peeling,Hope this helps.

If you dont use suncream, you will get more sun, therefore you are more likely to get burnt.  Burnt skin peels off quicker.

However if you use suncream, the tan builds up slower but less damage will be done therefore it wont be as likely to peel and will last longer

yes, the idea is to slow down the tanning, so it will take longer to go brown but hopefully stay on longer as well. The higher the factor, the slower the tanning. But in the end, assuming you've got the time (and it won't take that long), the tan will be just as brown - and much less red, which is the real object of the exercise.
Forget red or brown, you should be worried about getting skin cancer.

Use a high SPF and just take your time, but it's pretty much true that any sort of longer term sun exposure increases your risk of skin cancer by a large factor. Getting burnt and going red is even worse.

imreally sorry to butin but i was amazedat codie ns handle ..... the reason my youngest daughter is codie and ive never come across another spelt the same way...is it your name.

sorry for that , im off to cuba soon and glad you asked this question iam naturally dark haired but mediumskin toned but dont burn but wandering what factor i should start a two week break on then presumework down as tan builds

sorry about my spacing my space bar has stuck ;)
Callisto codie is my daughters name too i just use her name on here because mine names already used on here , A lot of people spell it cody for a girl and wanted to be different and im guessing you felt the same way.
Can i just add that i asked my local pharmasist about zinc and castoroil and she explained that it is just as good to protect your skin as any other high factor sun cream,I didnt ask her to prove my point on here i was scared that i was being ignorant to the fact that i cover my kids in it and it may not be protecting them so il listern to my dads advice again in future.
Sunburn or suntan is bad news. Keep out of the sun or you run the risk of skin cancer.
