Bad Start To 2013

I was glad to see the back of the Christmas holidays as it can be the loneliest time of the year. Now a young relative has been diagnosed with cancer and has been sent home without treatment which certainly doesn't sound good. He is married with kids. I just feel like crying as I feel so helpless because there is nothing I can do except pray for him.

Oh spotit that does sound bad - no treatment offered at all or does he have to return for a follow up?

He has been to hospital several times for scans etc and they talked about giving him chemo. Seemed to keep dragging their heels. Then he was in such pain they took him into hospital last week. He came home today with an attachment for a painkiller, I imagine morphine. When his Mum asked about the treatment he just said 'no treatment'.

Oh Spotit I do feel for you. After losing our son-in-law our lovely niece has been diagnosed with cancer and things are not going well. Young with two girls. This is a bitch of an illness and leaves us all feeling so helpless.
Cry, Spotit....rage as I did but remember your prayers will help you both.

Thank you all for caring. As you say, Gness, it s a terrible illness. I lost a younger sister to it a few year ago when he was only 40 and my best friend from Primary School 3 years ago. Another friend also has it and she is now with her sister and I can't envisage her lasting the year out.

Awww Spotit3 what bad news, no wonder you feel upset. If you need to cry, then do so, let it out and don't let it get build up inside.

Is the family close by? I wonder if there's anything you can do to help.

so sorry spotit3. a cruel time of year for things like this. My daughters best friend died last week, 48 and with 4 young children under 10. Terrible when it happens to a loved one, I feel for you.

Feel for you. A friends little girl was feeling really poorly, went to doc who sussed something was seriously amiss. After 2 days in hosp they diagnosed cancer and gave her 6 months. She died the nexy morning. She was 2 years old. life can be a real bitch x

So sorry to hear that snowball and carandrog . Age is no barrier nowadays. He has a lot of family close by. I am doing what I can for his Mum who lives quite close to me and letting her know just to call if I can help in any way.

It is good to share it sometimes, even with people you've never met. There is always support here, an ear to listen and a shoulder when you need it.

Think I am gradually finding you what's great bunch you all are, Snowball. Think I was a little wary at first as you all seemed to know each other so well I thought it might be a little clique and they mightn't welcome outsiders. I think it is something which comes from being on my own now, I find it a lot harder to mix with people.
