Can't shake it off.

For several days now, I have had this niggly feeling of impending doom. It's nothing specific, just a fleeting feeling which is hard to capture and analyse. There is nothing obvious, going on in my life, that I am worried about. There are no hospital appointments, illnesses or events that I am concerned about.

I haven't been sleeping well for the last few nights, just lying there feeling 'anxious' about nothing in particular.

Is this something that will pass or do I need to see my G.P.?

I think most people get this occasionally during their life Tilly. I'd go to GP if it went on too long. I get it sometimes (not much over the last few years) when I hear of sudden deaths/fatal accidents amongst acquaintances, etc.
It just brings home to me what a fine line it all is between happiness and despair and how in a second your whole life can be turned upside down.

I can't really advise what to to do other than to either leave it a few days and try to have a break from work this weekend- maybe go for a nice long walk or go out to a show/meal/cinema and see what happens, and then arrange to see the doctor if you're still not sleeping. Treat yourself to some rum babas tonight

I don't 'feel' depressed, or even just fed up. It's just these trickles of 'something's going to happen' which are affecting me.
Sorry you're feeling low, tilly - don't let it go on too long, it might be something as simple as the clocks going back and the dark nights closing in affecting your mood. Try to do relaxing things before you go to bed to encourage sleep - but don't worry about it, worrying will only make you worry about it more.... :-) See how you feel after a few days, but at the moment I'd just think of it as a phase you're going through. - and you'll emerge soon and be yourself again. x

When you do sleep are you dreaming more? The reason I ask is, I dream for England and sometimes I get this feeling following a bad dream and I just can't shake it for a few days. I hope the feeling passes soon xx

You should see your doctor tilly. Often, anxiety can lead to panic attacks. Best to nip it in the bud now. :-)

Thanks everyone. I'll see how it goes over the weekend and try to get some rest.
It might be a bit soon, bluestone - whilst I agree with you 100% about a potenitial future development, tilly's not told us about any classic clinical anxiety symptoms, just a few days' gloomy negative feelings in the night. I think I'd suggest seeing the doc if it's still happening next week, but trying to sleep better first might be a place to start, if it's the night when these feelings manifest. - and IMO, things always feel worse in the dark.... x

Boxtops, it's not a nighttime thing. I am having this feeling throughout the day, albeit fleetingly. At nighttime, when I'm trying to sleep, the feeling is exacerbated.

I'll be fine, I'm sure.
Ah sorry, I misunderstood, when you mentioned lying in bed feeling anxious. I'd still try to distract yourself a bit during the day, see it if helps - but yes, don't let it go on more than a few days, it's always worth getting these things checked out - as bluestone says, nip it in the bud early!

Thank you, boxtops. I'm confusing myself because it's all a bit nebulous.
Have you ever previously suffered from SAD? Apparently the lights you can get are helpful (but expensive I think). I always get a bit grumpy when it starts getting darker and colder, I know that I do so it doesn't have the power to get me 'down' so to speak but I think sometimes people don't realise that it's a possibility at this time of the year.

Hi China Doll. I am aware of SAD but haven't actually thought that that might be the problem. How does one know?

I do try to get out into the daylight, as I walk for 40 minutes each morning, unless it's raining. I also try to get out at lunchtime when I'm at work.
tilly2 try some sanatogen powder my mother in law swore by it and it is not addictive

Thank you, pug, but isn't sanatogen for 'old' people?
It can also be a symptom of labyrinthitis - ear problems. So ask GP to have a look at your ears while s/he's about it.

till2 no sanatogen is not just for old people it helps build up strength and energy if you are not sleeping to well
