Would they still howl if the moon was replaced by a large spotlight at the time when there is a full moon would they still howl or is it specifically that time of the month it's out?

What if you kept the moon out of view and kept the spotlight off?

If they did howl at the spotlight what would happen if you shone the spotlight a few days or even 15 days before the usual full moon?

Would this confuse them or would they still wait for the time of the full moon?

I THINK that howling at the moon is a myth.
Ozzy osbourne barks at the moon, its just an unexplained phenomenon
Wolves howling at the Moon is a myth perpetuated by Werewolf stories.
The moon is only incidental in those images. It sets the animal in a nice photographical scene.

The typical howling is to call the scouting pack members to come home and warn any non-pack members that the territory is taken. Wolfs/dogs also howl when they wish to communicate to others over greater distances and also when in pain or lonely.
