Deaths register

What is the best site for looking up deaths? There seem to be so many now that I am confused/ I don't want to pay unless I have to- jst want to check to see if someone I used to know has died or not!

I can check ancestry for you if you give me a name and birth date.........but it only goes up to 2006.

Hi! I'm afraid I don't know the birth date. The name is Valerie Tyler - which became Bain when she married. She would have been born around 1930. I don't know much about her unfortunately. I just wondered whether she had died recently. I imagine she lived in the London area as she worked there as a singer with the Mike Sammes Singers most of her working life.
