Has anybody ever found that a built-up shoe helps to alleviate chronic lower back pain? I've been told that I've a slight difference in leg length and that could be my problem! I have tried loads of other "cures" (exercises, ultrasound, manipulation etc) but nothing so far seems to make any difference. Could this be the solution? And how long does it take? If so I'll go and cut myself a small piece of heel-carpet!

You can buy orthotic inserts in Boots, if the difference is small - but you could also buy straightforward insoles and just wear them on the one foot?
This is something that needs to get done by a specialist who will measure you properly and tell you which leg is longer. You then need to get a molded insole made to the required thickness. Bearing in mind that everyone has one leg longer than the other don't expect a miracle cure. Try 'The Permanent Pain Cure' by Ming Chew, it helped me.
