Being the busy people that we are in the office we are trying to work out if the letters on the back of smarties lids mean anything or spell a word or are they just random!

So far we have two J's and a T. Does anyone else have any letters? Help us we NEED to know.

I always just thought they were random letters and if you got your own initial it meant you were like magic or something. I was about 5 at the time though.

I have often deliberated over this great mystery.  I too work in a very busy office where we do great research into chocolate sweeties!

I always throught the letters on the lids were the letters used in the word S M A R T I E S.  But if you have a "J" then I must be wrong.  More chocolate research is obviously required.

Oh just thought I would add that the two J's and T are all on orange lids too, ooooooooo the plot thickens!

The letters on the small boxes spell SMARTIES but the letters on the tube lids are just the letters of the alphabet.

Ah Little Lady I am afraid you are wrong I have just found this site:

It would appear there are more to the ickle smartie than meet the eye!

I am now on my next quest to find out how many Jaffa Cakes the average person can fit in they're mouth in one go! My personal best if 2 and a half...Oh what a productive day i've had!

OH MY GOD!   When I was wee (about 10 or 11, so about 24 years ago) I decided to try to get the complete alphabet in each colour.  I only completed yellow, but had quite a few of green, blue and orange, cos I used to just ask anyone I saw eating Smarties if I could have their top.  By the time my collection had got to this stage, I'd outgrown such stuff (!) and I think I threw them away one time I was cleaning out my room.  I am gutted...they'd have been worth a fortune!  Dagnamit!  but anyway, I can confirm that every letter of the alphabet was available in every colour (or at least it was, BITD). xx
