Green snot usually means an infection....ditto phlegm see your gp
It does sound like an infection. You will probably be asked to do a sputum sample so that the specific bug can be targeted with the correct antibiotics (if it's not viral).
Found this on the NHS website

OVERUSE OF ANTIBIOTICS

Many people think that a green or yellow nasal discharge means a bacterial infection, which requires antibiotics. This is NOT true. Colds will often begin with a clear nasal discharge, but after several days it usually turns creamy yellow or green. Colds are caused by viruses, and antibiotics will not help. A green or yellow nasal discharge is not a sign that you need antibiotics.
May well be.....but not definitely so.

If you feel well in yourself, no temperature, then you will not necessarily need antibiotics.
miss prim.........EXCELLENT...you beat me to it.

Thank you all, I am seeing the nurse this afternoon and will run it by her.
Sorry about that sqad but I do agree with you about the temperature as if you have one and you are feeling really unwell then it could be a sinus infection and then you might need antibiotics. I'm sure the nurse will be able to advise you lynbrown
I had to get the GP in to-day because I have a phlegmmy chest and had a very bad night, thought I was on the way out, couldn't breath any sense, so wifey called the doc who has prescribed an antibiotic although my sputum is almost clear, she had listened to my chest for quite a while back and front and said there is a little infection. I feel back to normal at the moment so I hope I will sleep to-night.
Also I've got to get an X-ray done.
I believe this is due to infected sinuses. A remedy for this is to wash them out with salt water. Stick your nose into a cup of salty water.
sqad,
Nice to see you back, hope all went to plan, was just going to ask if anyone had heard from you.
Welcome back Sqad - that was quick! I do hope you are comfortable. Take care not to overdo things too quickly!
I think you might want to check the date/time of Sqad`s posts.
