Are there any spot creams that really work? I always get the odd big spot around my chin and have tried loads of spot creams (these ones that reduce it in a couple of days) but they don't seem to work. When I have used facial washes for spots in the past I've always ended up with more (i just put this down to sensative skin). I cleanse, tone and moisturise every day. Anyone know anything that does actually work?

dermologica medicated cleansing gel is good for drying up spots, when you cleanse tone and moisturize every day you will initially get more spots coz they are already there they need to come out and this speeds up the process, but if you can get past this stage you will see a big difference and your skin will begin to clear up. hope this helps xxx

I am past the age of spots (or at least worrying about them) but remembering leaving a dab of toothpaste on spots overnight and it seemed to work.

One word: Germolene. Absolute genius - gets rid of redness and stops spots dead quick. Also sudocream dabbed on helps dry up spots very quickly. Wish i was past getting spots - and i'm nearly 25!
Milly - If you get spots dont use spot creams or wahes they only hinder the problem. If you have an oily/combination skin type but a dehydrated skin condition these products will only shrink your pores tighter when you actually need to hydrate and open them so the excess oil or sebum as it is properly called can be released from your pores. Dont use anything that makes your skin feel like it's stretched, what i mean by this is tight. 99% of people have dehydrated skin condition with either a dry, oil, combination or normal skin type. Skin type is somethng you have to live with for the rest of your life, a skin condition you can treat and improve, other skin conditions are sensitivity, mature, acne you probably get the picture. Spots on the chin relate to hormones so you might notice these at certain times of the month or part way through your cycle. Try not to use anything that is soap based and i recommend only using facial washes if your having a shower not morning and night unless you have really oily skin which i doubt from what you are saying. Use a cleanser then rise it off with cold water this is the best natural toner and it is free. Use a light moisturiser that is runny as it has more water content helping to hydrate your pores and skin better and quicker than a thick oily based one better for dry skins. Dry and dehydrated are very different by the way. Dry is lack of oil and dehydrated being a lack of water. If you skin feels tight in areas use a slightly thicker one but just not on your problem areas which is probably your t-zone. Invest in a witch stick i use one and they a ruddy brilliant for spots and you apply it when you want and how you want. Exfoliate once to twice a week and put a mask on for a treat now and again best when your in  bath as your pores open up and they are more effective. Hope this help and sorry to ramble on and on and on LOL.....
I have the same problem with the odd large spot on my chin and find TCP clears it up in a day or 2

thanks for your answers guys!

Little Lady - you seem to know quite a bit about this. If I tell you my regime can you tell what (if anything) is wrong with it. I don't wear much makeup, only a bit of foundation really. Take my makeup off every night with unfragranced baby wipes (these are all i have found that don't seem to aggrivate the problem), tone with a L'oreal toner for dry skin and use E45 on the dry bits but not the rest. I use a L'oreal exfoliator but generally only every few days in the shower (i do shower more then every few days). Any suggestions.

Hi Milly143, Like you I had exactly the same problem, I would buy a new product and be filled with hope ... only to be disapointed. In the end I went to my doctor and she referred me to a specialist who diagnosed me with mild acne. (my spots were painful and took an age to go) anyway, I was prescribed a course of antibiotics (Erymax) and was also given some cream to put on the spots at night. This is done the trick. BTW I'm 35 and it took me ages to pluck up the courage to seek help from my docs but she was brilliant a nd v supportive. Go for it! Good luck.
Sorry I forgot to add that I didn't have a face full of spots, it was just that when one popped up, it was really difficult to tame or get rid off, also toothpaste dried and cracked my skin, so that was a no, no.
Witch Stick works for me and clears the spot up very quickly, if you apply it several times a day.

Thanks again for your answers! I went to the docs when I was about 13 for my spots (im 21 now) and she put me on the pill, which didnt help. To be honest she doesnt fill me with confidence and I have had to see her a lot over the past couple of years for various reasons so I feel like a bit of a hypercondriac (sp?) every time i go to see her. Its weird as I have never had spots on my forehead, nose or checks. only ever my chin. Maybe I will give toothpaste a go, always thought that was a bit of an old wives tale. Ive tried witch stick and loads of others like that, they just dont seem to have any effect.
if its not showing signs of clearing i reccomend a visit to your GP's. Regardless of what creams/ facial washes that you are or aren't using this could be all down to a simple hormonal imbalance They will be able to prescribe an antibiotic lotion or tablet which should work quickly or Diante which is a contraceptive pill that controls the amount of testosternone produced (too much causes acne). The problem doesn't have to be severe to be given any of these treatments so its worth a try.

Are the spots you are getting large or small?

Are they really painful?

What areas do you seem to get them most is it just your chin or forehead etc too?

By the sounds of things you probably have a bit of combination skin type with dehydrated skin condition and maybe a bit of sensitivity probably bought on by using the wrong products which is fairly normal for most peeps as they dont know what skin type they have usually. For instance alot of people assume they have dry skin as it feels tight but when in actual fact it is dehydrated, they go n buy a dry skin product so forth putting more oil on to the skin when they need more water and end up getting spots and dont understand why. Sound familiar? Stop using E45 cream it will be far to thick honestly it doesn't have too many fantastic ingredients in it either, i have no problem with people who get on with products fine as everyone is different and if your skin gives you no jip dont change anything.

yeah they are big painful ones and only ever appear on my chin. Someone mentioned that I sit resting my chin on my hands so I will try and stop doing that.

Well certainly touching your face alot will promote bacteria to form spots but like i said before this can also link to your hormones as the chin relates to that part of the body, bit like reflexology but done with different parts of the face relating to different organs in the body. I would try and keep the area as clean as possible use a nice light fluid moisturiser on that area no thick cream this will only make the problem worse. Having a few odd sopts shows your skin is functioning properly so try to worry about them too much though i know when you have one you think everyone is staring and its three time sthe size it really is lol. Tea tree oil is also really good for spots as it is a natural anti bacterial and antiseptic, well worth investing in some as its also good for mixing with shampoos to give an extra cleanse (only a few drops though) to put on insect bites and put on spots too only a dab though, you could try mixing a drop in with your moisturiser this could also help the smell is not the best though it isn't the worst either. Its very hard to say without being able to properly look at your skin but itmay beowrth your while investing in some better products that are slighlty more naturally based but will be slightly more pennies, Clarins, Decleor, Dermalogica or the likes are a really good place to start, you dont have to go mad just try a moisturiser or something they tend to last longer than the cheaper ones to and wont sensitise your skin as much. Also if you have spots that are healing try lavender oil on those one of the best healing and soothing oils about again you can mix this with moisturiser or cleanser etc. If you decide to try tea tree or lavender the way you can tell if it is pure and not mixed with anything is if it has its latin name of the oil underneath the actual name for instance lavender is lavendula officinalis, can't quite remember what tea tree is off the top of my head but i hope this has helped....

Yeah, that's brilliant! Thank you v.much!!!
No probs anythime ;0)
TCP works wonders for any type of spot bite sting infection. Dont dilute it tho!

Spots are usually a result of diet rather than your beauty regime. Try cutting down on dairy and red meat, eating more veg and fruit, and of course drink a lots of water. Other than that, tea tree oil dabbed on spots works wonders, as does pearl cream, which you can find in most good chinese supermarkets.
