My friend has just asked me to go to the Mind, Body And Soul Festival in London at the end of May.  When I was younger (and less cynical), I used to believe in the hidden truths and possibilities of  psychics, astrology, crystals, meditiation, i even dabbled in tarot cards, but am now finding myself quite sceptical about it all. Has anyone had a real positive experience from this "New Age" stuff.

i'm a sceptic too, i believe that any positive experiences result from the placebo effect

I have found different people interpret things differently which is normal obvoiusly, but i have come across somethings myself which are more than just coincidences etc. I actually do alot of my own readings and find them very honest and relative to my question at the time. i dont use tarot cards but i have used medicine cards and 'I ching' cards also angel cards etc. My dad is a councellor and healer so i have very much been in to alternative ways etc. i am very intrigued by proper astrology not the stars you might read in the papers but having your own birth chart drawn up and reading in depth into all the houses that relate to each segment of your chart and where your planets sat the moment you were born this is alot more relative to me and things certainly make sense more if you do them yourself.

I did a reading for some friends once with the I ching cards and they were all relative to there points in life too. I find it very interesting but i think there are alot of phonies out there just trying to make money.

Also i wouldn't call it new age, the medicine cards were made by the indians in ancient times and the 'I ching' cards are japanese from eras ago but alot of our 'new age' stuff is a load of rubbish. They are just old tools chnaged and out into our format but seem to have lots more negativity about them to cause worry etc.

if you find a genuine reader one that doesnt see money before service..you can get a genuine reading..i have read the cards for many years and have had no complaints and people return and reccomend me..but i have also worked with some that are only in it for the money and will tell you exactly what you want to hear whether its true or not..they will read your body language and get you to say more than you should so it helps them along..then you have the bad ones that predict illness and death and disasters they are just trying to be sensational and should be reported..as they frighten some people..then their are the ones that want vast sums of money to get rid of your curses and bad luck thats a load of nonsense also..but some people get really scared if they are told they have been jinxed..so will willingly part with money to remove the curse..its all not very nice ..but their are genuine ones around..i phoned up a psychic line that i used to work on for a reading and it was the biggest load of cxxp that i had ever heard and it ran my phone bill up 30 the psychic told me nothing and asked more questions than he should have..its just down to finding a decent one the spiritualist church is usually a good place as they are all trained...and free or cheap..
my mum does reiki which always works on me. and im not sure if this counts but i do kum nye exercises which make me feel v good!
I am sceptical of everything until it has proved to me in some way that it works- like most people. I have also tried most things- especially alternative medicine, as I have no faith in doctors and drugs. For me, the biggest thing has to be astrology. I KNOW there is accuracy there! The character types are far more than just coincidences. I can look up the planets in my ephemeris, and they are always SO predicatable. I don't need anyone else to tell me that it's nonsense, because I know that it's not!

Once you understand the concept of placebo, these issues become useless imo.

I believe that we are all here for a reason and even though I dont know what my own purpose is in life; I am sure that there has to be one.
In the same way I think things happen for a reason too, even the bad things. As a child I did not understand why bad things happened and I got myself into a lot of very dangerous situations that could have ended up very badly. When I recall things now I think that there was something more than just a child's common sense involved.Yeah I got gut instincts about bad situations and used my brain to get out of them, but I think I had someone guiding me.

As I grew up I was always too old for my shoes as everyone used to tell me. My dad died when I was very young and it had an impact that I did not realise until I was a lot older. Obviously I was a bit lost about direction in life and saw several spiritual mediums, it did not give any answers. They always saw my dad stroking my hair though. It's just comforting that's all; but I know that it can all be misconstrued on both sides. My mother died when I was a lot older and by then I was used to spiritual company from different people.

Everybody I attract to me is very spiritual, even my boyfriend. We still get spirits coming to visit us in our flat. Just lost people who were once dead and don't know where they are.

It might sound weird, but this is not what I wanted from life, I am a rational person who likes to see to believe; but sometimes you see things that you can't explain. That is where  am now. I havent had a reading for years, just because I dont want to know anymore what my purpose is. I think it is a lot less painful that way, especially if you hear things that you are not prepared to handle.

As with everything you just have to have an open mind and just be sensible.
