Anti-biotics

Is it possible to buy a basic anti-biotic like Amoxycillin on-line anywhere do you think?

You dont know what's in it for a start, could be anything
You dont know if what you have is treatable with anti b's
If you really think you need them your GP is a call away

probably but be careful - I believe not all medicines sold on line are proper pukka brands and some maybe downright dangerous.

I think I know it is a daft idea really and have suprised even myself ... or disappointed myself!
I just have such a phobia of going to the doctors and figured that something like Amoxycillin wouldn't really do any harm and might just do the trick ... I've rarely taken anti-biotics so thought it wouldn't be making me resistant to them if I got hold of any myself.
Just in a bit of a pickle about deciding what to do ... I have quite a high pain threshold but this has been the worst pain I've ever had and it was almost unbearable for around three weeks leading up to yesterday really when it seems to have eased off a little. Maybe I am on the mend anyway and will give it a bit longer before I do anything further.

Phone the surgery and ask to speak to your GP, if you tell him about your phobia, does he already know? if this is a simple case of an infected wound or earache he may well prescribe your medication over the phone and you just collect it from the pharmacy. We do it all the time at our residential home for simple problems that does not need a visit from the GP.

Do you have local minor injuries unit. bette? You could take yourself there - but really the doc would be your best bet, you could be making yourself worse by not going.

Sqad, I am talking about a client discussing a problem with her own "qualified" GP, or someone doing that on someone else's behalf due to a problem with a phobia or a simple diagnosis of a common complaint, if the GP is not happy with this situation they can still request a visit.

Thanks Ratter15 ... I think she kinda has the picture but just has me down as a basket-case really.
It is a minor injury problem ... caught the very top of my foot on my wardrobe door about 7 or 8 weeks ago and it blistered about the size of a 50p coin so I just kept sticking a pin in it to drain the fluid off but, of course, I think it then became an ulcer.
The wound itself has never looked too badly and the surrounding area only went a little bit pinkish but, oh the pain!!! Have never experienced anything like it to be honest.
The wound itself is now about the size of a 5p coin and is just "sore" as I think I would expect it to be and yesterday I didn't get much of the intense pain I have had and had a much better night so I think I might have turned the corner anyway.
Sorry to ramble on ... it's just been quite hard to cope with and I've managed to keep it from everyone but my husband and it just has me a bit on the weepy side today.

BetteK, you really need to pop into a hospital for that and get it cleaned and dressed properly, they will also get you on the correct antibiotics.

Bettek, if you are elderly or diabetic or both, this would be make it doubly important to seek medical advice as a priority. You say you have turned a corner and its improving, the fact that you have just come on here to ask advice tells me you are still concerned, get it sorted ASAP!

BetteK you will be told (rightly) on here to go to docs or 'drop-in' centre but just wanted to let you know that I fully understand your phobia of going and I might well be tempted to buy antibiotics online too. I find GPs and their receptionists very intrusive personally and dread going so try not to.

Am 51 and not diabetic. It only occurred to me in the last couple of days that I might be able to get anti-b's on-line even though I've heard all the horror stories so kinda knew it was a daft thought.
I did have the number for a taxi half dialled a couple of weeks ago when the pain was just too much to bear (we have a walk-in clinic at the local hospital) but bottled out and hung up.
The wound is looking very "clean" and I am sure it is ok and I keep telling myself that if it, or the surrounding area, was going to get any worse then it would have by now!

If you have had this problem for 6 weeks and it hasn't healed then it would almost certainly be classed as an ulcer, they rarely get better without medical intervention.

Yes, you should get it seen by a doctor.

In the meantime, an antibiotic cream may well do the trick...Aureomycin or Gentamycin.
