Morning folks.
I have had a really sensitive left side of face/scalp for the last week, can hardly brush/wash my face, sharp stabbing pain, for about 4days, which is easing off, but its now more sensitive to touch, no sigh of blisters etc as yet? i need advise as to which painkillers I could take, just been taking paracetomal with no effect/ just looked thro the medicine i have in the house, could I take co-codamol 8/500? Until I can get an appointment with a GP which might be a couple of weeks!

The blisters (vesicles) should be out now, but give them 3 more days and if they don't appear, then it is not shingles.

Anyway..... whichever, you will be fine to go on your holidays in a couple of weeks.

Either Trigeminal neuralgia OR shingles, but still time for the vesicles of shingles to come out.

Wait and see.

For the moment....Ibuprofen 600mgms up to three times a day.

Keep us informed.

If you have neuralgia, which affects jaw, teeth, pain around the eye and a headache (singly, or all at once), I have found that the only real relief I get is putting something warm - I have a wheatbag that I pop in the microwave, and just hold it to the side of my face. Hope this helps -you have my sympathies.

Thanks for info islamum, will try that, no pain in jaw or teeth, just very very sore to touch/brush hair etc, pain there all the time
Yes, I forgot to add earache as well! One thing though, it doesn't usually last very long. Hope you feel better soon.
If it might be shingles, please take the precaution of getting in lots of zovirax and as soon as blisters appear keep slothering the area liberally. Shingles in the head can be very disfiguring as well as painful - you may have the pain off and on literally for years after, but using copious amounts of zovirax cn reduce the scarring caused by the blistering.

Will do mosaic! but heres hoping its not! but thanks for advice.
The first real signs of shingles on my head was when I got very itchy spots that was oozing fluid. I could feel the fluid running down my head. Also didnt feel very well at all.

Having had the misfortune to suffer shingles in my mid 30s, I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy
