On the leaflet in the box, it says not to drink grapefruit juice.

Would this include bunches of grapes ?

No, be wary of cranberry juice too. It can alter certain medications. Phone your doctors surgery, they'll be able to give you details.
Morning sqad, nice morning on the island? I welcome any new evidence-based interventions (even more so when it's personal!) but I was interested to see on that link that "they" have abandoned the Framlingham scoring for certain patients. I can but wait and see - this new doc at least seems to be getting things moving for me at last, it's taken months before anyone would actually do anything. Doc said that family history is taken into account in the risk scoring... again, I guess that it won't be case of "one size fits all", if individual clinicians use their nous in applying this new guidance to individual patients.
boxy....another hot day on the Island.......too hot ;-)
LOL sqad, I wish... getting autumnal over here first thing now. Still nice and warm in the day, though (but we have Bank Holiday in ten days, that'll change!).
I have just got my repeat prescription of Pravastatin and have perused the leaflet with a fine-tooth comb. Nowhere does it mention the word grapefruit, so perhaps a change of statin might be the answer for grapefruit lovers. The only restriction as to when the tablets should be taken is one hour before or four hours after any bile acid sequestrant you may be taking (whatever that is).
Oh I take simvastatin and didn't know about about grapefruit, I couldn't take it with certain BP meds but thought I was OK now. Can't take anything soya within 3hrs of taking coaprovel!
just read my folletto and it says persons who drink alcohol habitually should see the doctor, before taking simvastatin, I only get through half a bottle of wine with sunday lunch so I'm OK.
mike thanks....no surprise there then.
There is no mention anywhere on the web regarding grapefruit and Pravastatin, though there is plenty re Simvastatin. I'm not well up enough to know the difference between the two.
p.s.

I normally take my statin at night washed down with a G&T!
mike....both in the same class of drugs, both come from fungi, there are minor differences in pharmacological activity, but too complex for young sqad.

Grapefruit was only applicable to Simvastin and even then not a big deal if taken 3 hours apart.

Thanks again.
Sqad my Doc thinks the same as you about cholesterol and statins.
lofty...he must be a nutcase then.......LOL
He's gorgeous!! Just seeing him makes me feel better.

Seriously though. My cholesterol was once at 7.00 and he said he wasn't in the least concerned. Hubby was on Simvastatin (heart attack) even though he had naturally low cholesterol. Simvastin gave him dreadful muscle pains. New statin has been no problem. I presume because of heart attack he will be on statins for ever even though his cholesterol is around 3.00
My cholesterol is now 5.00. Some doctors would have me on Statins. Fortunately mine wouldn't.
Lofty......give me a chance, and i could be gorgeous.

Yes, hubby will have to be on either statins or small dose aspirin for the rest of his life.
I think that the only reason I am on them is because I am a Type 2 diabetic (allegedly!) and they like the cholestorol to be around the 4 mark. I get a slight muscular pain in my upper right arm, but it is mild and occurs only when I am lying on it in bed. I put that down to advancing years rather than statins.
I never used to like grapefruit. But then I read somewhere they helped with weight loss, so I started having a glass of unsweetened juice with breakfast. Quite used to it now. Not that I drink it so much now that I've temporarily swopped fruit juice for near zero calorie squash.
He is on both Sqad. I am sure you are already gorgeous!

Have a good weekend x
Lofty...thanks....yes.....pretty gorgeous.....have a nice weekend.
