My wife was prescribed Simvastatin but has developed pain in her leg and hip. Is it because of the tablets? Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks, John....

I got pains in my arms and was taken off them, so yes.
Statins do cause muscle pains in some, the doctor will try another one if she asks.
She should go back to her GP and tell her. I was on Simvastatin and had dreadful muscle pain in my arms and legs. I am now taking Atorvastatin and have had no problems at all.
I had terrific pains in my arms and legs taking that, I think I went through all the statins and had to come off them. It felt as if my muscles were being squeezed together to the point of cramp. I now take Ezetrol.
It MIGHT be.

Don't assume that the pain is a direct result of simvastatin, as it might well be coming from an arthritic hip.

See your GP.
My friend had this with Simvastatin, she had to come off them and within days the pain had gone. But my husband has been on Atorvastatin for 8 years with no ill effects. Bear in mind Simvastatin is much cheaper than Atorvastatin so they will be the first option via the doc.
I take Atorvastatin and often get terrible cramp like pains in both my calfs. Doctor has cut dose down to 40mg from 80mg and pain not gone but not so bad so often, but has to keep closer eye on level because of doing this because my cholesterol was at 11.9 before taking them.
Try taking Q10 supplements. Works for me!
