Whose 1973 hit was termed "generally harmful" by a Tory MP who claimed its tone could lead to industrial troubles.

wild guess but black sabbath ?

Possibly "Part of the Union", by The Strawbs, which was a hit in 1973 & was commented on as political propaganda by a couple of Tory MPs
