Whilst I appreciate that if you live in the countryside there will inevitably be country smells, but is it normal for the country smells to reek like blocked drains? Thanks

I don't understand people who move to the country who then moan about ...the country. Farms smell. Get over it.
It's probably Pig Sh*t which the Pig farmer has spread on his Fields. It stinks like hell for a while until the rain washes it into the soil !!

The farm across the road put in hog houses. Sometimes there's as many as 1,500 hogs in there. One mile is the limit and they put them up at one mile and one foot. Murder has come to mind several times. Because they changed the laws all I can do is put up with it and hope the wind comes out of the north.
It should be a nice clean country smell!
Where do the owners live cowtipper? Do they suffer too or are they well out of it? Bad sense of smell would come in handy here.

Cheers for the constructive comments Bimbo.

I was so bad today that when I came back from shopping I ended up chucking bleach down all the sinks, etc and then I realised what it was. From comments made by people who have lived here longer than we have, it seems to be getting worse. Just wondered but if it pig sh!t I suppose it will stink - here's hoping it rains tonight.
They don't live anywhere near here. The cow lot stinks sometimes but pig is just nasty.
I always thought chicken was worst.
Yeah, we live in a valley and the farmers on the hillside spread pigpoo at certain times of year. It's rank.
Aah ... the sea breeze smells particularly lovely this evening.

I may open the balcony doors a bit wider.

(sorry to rub it in)

JJ, I'm still trying to catch your attention..... http://www.theanswerb.../Question1019032.html
Are they spreading slurry?

Could also be abattoir waste being used as a "soil improver" - farms are smelly!

Thanks all - I get that farms are smelly, just didn't think that they smelt like blocked drains (it is known locally as the smelly farm - not to differentiate it from other farms just because it is so rank).
IMO, different farms use different stink - certainly there's only one liquid pigpoo one round here.
There are restrictions to spreading slurry/manure; mainly near streams/river/reservoirs etc. You can complain to Council Environment Health if it's too near residential property.

Thanks Tambo, it is near a stream but I am wondering if they are doing it because they are pi$$Ed off with the council as some of their land has been bought from them as part of a flood defense thing (they've probably known that it was due to happen for a couple of years).
