I'm 48 years old and I still cry with fear when I'm in the dentists chair, am I weird?

no. It took me ages to find a dentist i could trust and I cling to him like grim death. Last time I went to see him (and I am in my late fifties) he grinned at me and said "how's my wounded soldier" He's lovely,
No, I'm 62 and would do the same. Would rather undergo open heart surgery without anaesthetic than go to the dentists.
went to the dentist this week as a funny blue/black/grey mark had appeared on my gum. apparently it's an amalgam tattoo. could have kissed him as i'd convinced myself it was something sinister.
i love my dentist.
Nope! I am 5'10" weigh 14 stone and a Judo blackbelt. When I sit in the dentists chair I get hot and cold sweats and am ready to do a runner.

Fortunately, my dentist is superb. She always says my dental card has a wide yellow streak down the back to remind her about me. If she ever moves her practice I'm gonna have to move as well!

I don't mind needles so I would love it if they would just put me to sleep.. I can also deal with pain really easy so I dont know what my problem is. I'm sure they have a good laugh when I leave I'm so ashamed.
Not at all arwyn,
I am 61 and was REALLY petrified of the dentist until about 5 years ago when I found a practice that specialises in nervous patients.
I found mine through my local Primary Care Trust(who have a list of nervous patient friendly dentists)

My hubby is petrified of dentists. He made an appointment to see one a few years back.He was so frightened & shaking that he fainted in the waiting room. He`s not been back since.
At 46 ive never not been terrified of the dentist. Stems from having 9 teeth out (too many teeth not enough mouth!) at aged around 9. Even taking the kids fills me with dread. I now am referred to the sedation clinic everytime i need something done - even a filling. It has taken the fight or flight out of checkups. When i need something done they book me into the clinic and i drift off and so far have never really remembered anything being done. Enquire at your dentist about a local sedation clinic. Mine isnt attached to my own dentist but they happily refer me rather than have me leaping about the room trying to escape!
