NHS Dentists

I had root canal surgery done some time ago and this afternoon the filling fell out. As I am not registered with a dentist in the area where I have recently moved to, I rang a few local ones and was told by all that there was a waiting list to register let alone be seen by a dentist! The last one I spoke to said I could register as an NHS patient but they couldn't see me until 15th Dec, but if I went private then they could see me tomorrow, so I have had no choice but to go private. How difficult has it been to register and be seen by a dentist where you live?

I cant find a dentist who can take me on at all, just as well my mouth doesnt hurt !

i hate to go on about it, cause i say it in every answer, but call the PALS service at your local Primary care trust, who will be able to tell you where to register, or put your postcode into nhs choices and click on dentists then expand it and they will tell you if they are taking on new pts. Also, PALS will be able to give you the dentists on the emergency roster (should be covered each day) for pts in your situation (ie need emergency treatment but dont have a dentist) they will be able to give you a temporary filling till you can get in with the new dentist.
i would also urge everyone to register with a dentist (nhs) even if they dont need it now. A check up is about 15 quid under nhs charges and at least youll be registered if you need it to avoid emz's situation

I found my NHS dentist through the NHS website and registered even though I didn't need one at the time. I now need a tooth to be taken out and I'm glad I did!! Bednobs is spot on in their advice.

Thanks bednobs! I will have a look into that. Will ask the dentist to temporarily fill it tomorrow and then try to find an NHS dentist.

I registered with a local one last year, it was the first one I tried and she apparently has no plans to go private which suits me!
