i have one of those where you pedal, AND push / pull the arms too. i am finding it is absolutely killing my shoulder, elbow and wrist joints (not muscles). any tips for me? i bought it second hand so there were no instructions or tips with it.

Possibly why it was available second hand. The machine you mention is very dated and probably no longer appropriate from what is known as safe in the Fitness Industry.
