Does anyone take any vitamin tablets to ward off colds and flu?

I started taking Vitamin C tablets several months ago, but they haven't stopped me from getting the sniffles.

i find eating fruit does the job just as well if not better - kiwis have more vitamin c in them than oranges and taste a lot nicer than vitamin tablets - not had a cold for a while - touch wood!!!!
I don't take them all the time. If someone around me has a cold or flu I take one or two high strength (500mg) Vit C tablets per day for a few days. I get fewer colds than I used to and fewer than the people around me.

If I start getting cold/flu symptoms I do the same thing with the Vit C tablets and I suffer only mild symptoms for 1 or 2 days when others are in a bad state for several days.

Thanks for your replies peeps.x
There have lots of articles in the paper about flu and flu jabs and old wives tales recently, and taking Vitamin C was one of them. It doesn't do you any good at all.
I am the same as eltelioni.......mainly because I forget to take them every day. But they do seem to help.
The problem with 'fresh' fruit is that it startes to lose Vit C as soon as it is picked. I believe studies have shown that a lot of fresh fruit is lacking in vitamins.
No, Vitamin C doesn't help with colds, but a varied diet including plenty of fresh fruit and veg will help keep you healthy.

I have taken virtamin c capsules for over 30 years and I haven't had a cold for 37n years
I don't eat veg and never have, can't stand em, but no detriment to my health and well being

my idea of this totalitarian government of 'five a day' vegatables, is leave four on the plate and put the last one in the bin.
thumbalina, we dont need veg, we need protein
I think it does work. My brother was always troubled with bad colds and he started taking effervesent Vitamin C tablets and he stopped getting colds - not altogether but just the odd sniffle. i was never bothered with bad colds but on his advice i started taking Asd@ high strength chewable one a day tablets. This was about 2 years ago and I rarely miss a day taking one. I have had no colds at all and i hope that continues. Some people say it is not that but I have no other way of explaining it. Friends say they have tried it and it has not worked but push them a bit and i will find they have not been taking it all the time.
im surprised no-one has recommended echinacea. its supposed to boost your immune system.
