I am going to Pilates tomorrow morning for the first time, and am a little worried, i am not the fittest of people, and have only joined the gym fairly recently in an attempt to loose weight. A friend recommended Pilates, so have booked it, What is it and is a high activity class? am i likely to make myself look silly because i am so unfit?

Mooria i was looking into doing pilates,i dont think its high impact more stretching and stuff,it would be really great if you could report back and tell me what you thought thnks!
I done pilates for the first time a month ago and have been to 4 classes since. It's not high impact. As puddicat says, it's more stretches and we do leg raises as well. It's good for making you more flexible and it's easy to do some at home too as all you need is space to lie down! I would recommend it along with doing a class that is geared more to 'fat burning' like aerobics. With pilates, as with all exercise classes I find, you can go at a pace that suits you. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for you answers will let you know puddicat, i have aqua aerobics booked after it - i like my aerobics in water, as no-one notices when you go wrong ;o)
its very good when you come out after and the next day you will feel great the way you walk and stand ,,enjoy it dont worry x
I used to do it and it's fab, really makes a difference to your posture.

Don't worry, it has levels like yoga so you build up to the harder stuff.

You might have some very stretched muscles the next day but show's you put some effort into doing it right :)
jenna how much do you pay per class?saw a advert today at a local community centre she was charging a fiver a class is that cheap or expensive?
Doesn't sound too bad for me if she's good.

I'm sure they charge over about that for specialist classes at a local yoga centre which my osteopath goes to.

Some comparatives here for near me, big variation in price up to 8 per session. Do they do a discount of you book multiple ones?

I went to classes at the gym I was a member of so the classes were included in the membership price.
probably pay as you go jenna, dont think people are willing to pay up front these days for block bookings as they may find they dont like it!
Mooria how did you get on with the pilates?
