I have a white German Shepard and she is 10/11 years old.

Recently she has started to get an uncontrolable bladder and urinates while laying down and on her bed.

Is there anything that can help her ? I've had her since she was puppy which is the majority of my life and I cant bear to let my parents have her put to sleep, which they're talking about doing tomorrow.

Please, anyone who've been in a similar spot, answer :(

It could possibly be just a simple UTI, although you would have to have a vet confirm this after tests.
I do hope your parents reconsider and have your dog checked out first.
Good Luck. xxx

I hope it is.... my other german shepard (who was 15) was put down last november, he had the same problem but he also had bad arthuritis. I can bear to lose her too.
Fingers crossed for you and your dog.
I hope it is something that can be treated.

Thanks a lot :) I will of course !
Have you brought her to your vet? There are many things that can cause a dog to have urinary incontinence.

It may be something like diabetes or Cushing's syndrome that are causing the dog to urinate more. These may be treatable so it could be worth getting her checked out.

Also, if it is urinary incontinence e.g. caused by spaying and not another disease process, there are two drugs which may work, they can each be tried individually or both given together.

Maybe worth a discussion?
Surely your parents will ask the vet for an opinion before they decide to have her PTS. It could very well be something that can be treated. I do hope it is. I have had to have pets PTS , but only when nothing can be done to save them. Then it is the best thing that you can do to stop them suffering. Be brave.
I had a mastiff with a similar problem. Vet prescribed Propalin syrup which helped. I suppose it depends on the cause of the problem. Hope you find a solution.
Agree with above that your parents should have advice first as it may be avery symple solution, but if your dog is suffering then you should consider the fact that puting her to sleep might be kinder!

It's very upsetting and it might not be necessary, but try to think about all the possibilities!

good luck x x x

We've just got back from the Vets and she's been given Propalin Syrup, Ampicillin and Rimadyl (for something else, I assume).

I hope this helps.
so glad there is a solution other than having her put to sleep.I hope it works wonders fo her and they all are happy together.
Rimadyl is a pain medication, it works wonders, my last GSD was on it for his last few years and he was completely pain free, I lost him at the age of 14.
Hope all goes well with your dog.

Thanks Cruella & ~Max~ :) Your comments have helped me a lot today. I've been at work since the vets and had been worrying about her, thankfully, my mum's been looking after her.

Thanks again :)
Hi MattsMunky

Just to let eveyrone who answered this post know, my dog Queenie is fine now she's on her medicine ! She's almost back to her old self, except for her partial blindness. She's on eye drops for that.

Thanks to everyone who posted messages of support and thanks in general :)
Question Author
My mum and dad have had to take her back to the vets today, with the intention of having her put down as nothing is working. The medicine stopped working :(
