back pain and chest pain

occasionally i get this jolt of pain that seems to start in the centre of my back between my shoulder blades and goes right through the middle (not round the side) to the front of my chest between my breasts. it is like an imaginary rod stabbed thru there and when it happens i struggle to get a breath in past the pain. this will last a few hours quite intensely then ease of over 24-48 hours or so. any ideas?

Don't want to alarm you mandimoo , but a good friend of mine recently had a near fatal heart attack because she (like me) was unaware that back pain can be an indicator. How long has this been happening? x

I would recommend you see your GP. I have experienced a similar pain in the past and it turned out to be resulting from Gall Stones, but better to be safe than sorry, a quick trip to your GP should put your mind at rest.
