I was wondering last night about this and need an answer. My bloke had cancer and before his chemo he had his sperm frozen in case he wanted children and couldn't have any after. Anyway if he cant and me and him do want children do I have to pay thousands for treatment or can I just go to hospital and say 'can I have my boyfriends sperm back please?'

and no redcrx it was just a thought, dont get excited
You would both need to ask the hospital, there was a court case earlier where the woman wanted kids and her ex didn't after he froze his sperm. The outcome (in a nutshell)was that the court decided that she couldn't have it

yer I read that but this would be if we both wanted which we do in the future and he cant have kids, I;m wondering if I will have to pay like IVF or if I can just take it home in a jar so to speak
i think it depends on were you live as well, some nhs offer ivf in cirtain circumstances and some don't. a friend of mine, who lives in scotland can have ivf on nhs because of medical problems she has had but only until she's 35 after that she would have to pay for treatment
you wouldnt be able to do the turkey baster trick!!

It wouldnt necessarily be IVF but somewhere in between really.

And dont do it yet sis, dad couldnt cope with 2 hormonal daughters at mo :)

so I would have to have IVF? Cant they just inseminate me?
Question Author
thats what I wanted to know why couldnt I do the turkey baster?
The sperm needs to be at the exact right temp 4get, that's why you need hospital conditions, it must be at the same tempreature as if he had just ejeculated,

I know rev but theres nothing quite like having your own and carrying it for 9 months
There are many ways to assist couples to become pregnant 4get, not just IVF which would involve a lot of hormones for you and harvesting of eggs and fertilising in a test tube.

The basic is as 4GS says, warming it up and inserting it.

I suppose it depends on how much he has frozen and what quality they are.

(ergh, a wednesday morning and im talking about my sister's boyfriend's sperm quality)

yer its Thursday redcrx, wake up
Question Author
I just wondered hopefully he's fine and it wont even get to that point, but you know me I dont do things by halfs red
It's still Wednesday somewhere in the world 4get
well as you know, its always best to plan these things!

and yey, its thursday, Im closer to the weekend than i thought. woohoo!!!!!!!
I have a few friends going through fertility treatment at the moment - i would think it would be IUI you would get in the first instance I understand this is when they insert sperm straight into the womb. Would have to be done by the hospital I imagine and I know it depends on area but my friend got one attempt at that before going onto 2 attemps at IVF on the NHS.
Turkey basters....oh, how the mere mention of one of those takes me back to good times here on AB ;o)

I guess you would have to pay for the medical services, 4get. And storage, maybe?
Question Author
oh it was all stored years ago.
