My girlfriend had this and besides cortisone injections which help for a while it usually goes away on its own eventually.
I have had this too for nearly a year now and was considering going to the doctors. I don't know about you but I am now finding that I put my foot down in a strange position when I walk so that it doesn't hurt so much and now I get back problems! I haven't been to the doctor yet as I don't know what he could do.
First of all I would imagine he wil show you some good stretching excercises, and then get you some orthotic insoles. Basically its like a little chair for your heel, you can get bog standard ones but worth paying to have them molded for your foot. Its the most succeful form of treatment for this and rarely doesnt work.

Unless you are chubby, or do a lot of high impact work, I would imagine your heel weaaring is causing the problem.

i have been doing the exercises, and i have the special insoles as i was diognosed with flat feet year and a half ago, they tell me the new condition is assosiated with flat feet. i just cant remember a time now since having my son 2 year ago when i haven't had sore feet! thanks everyone!
i had to get physiotherapty for this and eventually cortisone injections into the heel - not pleasant but def worth it. I have to say it does flare up now and again and dont think i will ever be truely rid of it but at times when feels particularly bad i do now feel i can control it a bit with the stretching excercises I was shown. Not sure if you are female but I was also advised to vary heel height - not always in flats or heels (adv though was poss my regular use of heels that added to the problem in the first place along with years of standing all day for my job!). I also run on a regular basis so really feel i cannot expect to be pain free.

thanks joannie10, could you tell me a bit more about this cortisone injection. I have learnt to live with it now in my every day life, but i am going to florida in september and i dont want it to spoil my holiday as i know there will be a lot of walking! Yes i am a woman!!
hi i too have just been told i have this plantar thing and am in so much pain. i have tried everything and am going to have to go back to the dr to see if i can get an injection.

I just find that i am walking like an old woman and people think you are mad. i have just put a message up asking for trainers advice as i am due to go on a walking holiday.

Hope your pain clears soon.
sorry been on holiday until now so had not realised you were looking for more info. I was referred to physio by my doc. It certainly helped as you say 'to live with it' i know what to do now that 'loosens' things a bit. Anyway after quite alot of weeks they suggested this injection. I was told though would need to stay completely off foot that day and rest for 4 days. I hobbled around though the following day either hopping or on toes of that foot. The injection is not pleasant - i had to lie face down and the needle is inserted how can I say parallel into fleshy bit of heel, if you can imagine what I mean. Actually typing this made it sound worse than it was. I would definately recommend you get it done. Will keep an eye on the thread incase I can help anymore. Only ever had it done twice and last time was at least year ago - never been as bad since.
you need to do what ever you can. i'm 15 and already got tight hamstrings and i have splints moulded to the shape of my legs that keep my feet at 90 degrees, stretching them al night. if you don't get it sorted you will need knee and hip replacements.
oh ye tight hamstring from my feet.
