Really bad cramp!

The other day at the gym I started doing some arm exercises and I got really really bad cramp in the elbow of my right arm. I couldn't straighten the arm or bend it completely.. I had to keep it in the middle. Then it happened again on Sunday at the gym! It seems to only be when I do arm weights or exercises.. I thought it was because I didn't warm up but I didn't warm up my legs either and they were fine, plus normally you get cramp after the exercise! Does anyone know why it is happening or is it more likely cramp?

Hi Ruby. I think it is because you generally use your legs far more than your arms. You have to walk around all day wherever you go,but dont do much with your arms really. Good for you though for getting to the gym and doing what most of us cant be bothered to do.xx

Yeah probably Pinkfizz. I should try and warm up my arms more! It bl00dy hurt though! Lol.
I only joined the other week but I must admit... I love it! Its a great feeling once I have motivated myself to do it. I am trying to go 3 times a week.

The only thing I hate is loads of people I know, use my gym. So I see ex boyfriends and guys I fancy and guys I have pulled on a night out! Pretty annoying, when you are all sweaty and on the stepper machine! Lol
I am going to join the gym near where I have just moved to. I have asked my b/f to come along as I dont know anybody but he is having none of it!! So its gona be just lonesome old me!

You will love it once you can get up the motivation to go. I recommend picking a gym full of old fogies! My gym is full of fit hunky men.... its rather off putting to a girl trying to run the treadmill! Lol
So the eye candy is distracting hey?? lol

Definately! Plus you don't want to have to make sure your make is ok when you go up the gym... I end up dressing up more for the gym than I do to go clubbing! Lol. I am sure I will get used to all those toned, half naked sweaty men there..... Why did I ever have doubts about joining the gym? Pffft..... s0d it... I might go 5 nights a week!
As long as they have a bar then it sounds better than the night club!! lol
Does it hurt when you pick up weights etc overarm? IE with the back of you hand uppermost and palm down? if yes you MAY have the begginings of tennis elbow, (very painfull if not treated, I know, I've had it).
whatever it is, get it checked out by your GP, you may need physio.

If it had a bar then I really would be down there all day everyday. :o)

Tennis elbow? Oh bums!

It does hurt when I lift things overarm but in both arms and only since Sunday... thats when I used the arm machine and I think I was too hasty! But is hurts like a bruise... and the pain is not much at all!

Try making a fist, hold your arm outstretched, place your opposite palm on the back of your knuckles on your outstretched arm (with me so far)? push down on your palm at the same time raise your fist at the wrist on the outstreched arm. If you experience pain see your GP Ruby mate, you've got tennis elbow.
If not, remember to stretch off before AND afret excercise.
Let us know how you get on
Sorry, that should be muscular pain just below the elbow.
Question Author
Ok it does hurt but it hurts with both arms! What is tennis elbow?
Question Author
It doesn't hurt muc at all.. and it doesn't hurt all the time... it only hurts slightly!
Ok see your GP,
and when you lift anything try and do it with your forearms uppermost. Basically tennis elbow is (now remember I was an Army paramedic so im not an expert hence my insistance on you seeking profesional advice) is where the muscle stats to detatch from the tendon holding it to the bone (humeros/elbow). In my case it detatched 100%, it almost made me cry, it took weeks of physio and in the end a steroid injection to put it right. I've lost about 15% of the power I had before that, yours sounds like a mild form but you need to see a GP as it will not get better without medical help (as I found out to my detrement).
As I said, let me know how you get on
Xx
