I am 56 years old and have gone throught the menopause (or at least I thought I had!) Yesterday I started a period, I haven't had one for over three years! Is this normal or should I be worried?

You should see your Doctor. Did you go to your Doc when you thought you were going through it? Cos i thought you had to blood tests to confirm that menopause.

No I didn't go to the Doctors specifically to see if I had gone through the menopause. I just stopped having periods and I haven't had one for over three years, so when it happened yesterday I was surprised to say the least! I will go to see the Doctor tomorrow.
I started the meno when I was 51 Kathyan, went almost 2 years with no period's then had a really heavy one out of the blue. It lasted for 5 days then nothing for another year just 2 perfectly shaped spot's but nothing since except the flush's,dryness, loss of libido but that came back about 18 months ago. Im 58 now and still get the odd flush. I take black coshosh for that btw. It's normal to have a period during the meno but if it's worrying you see your gp. Daisy.
Go to your doctor. This may well be nothing, but on the off chance that it is 'something', its worth a visit to let them decide.

I rang NHS direct and they advised me to go to the doctors. I made an emergency appointment on Tuesday and the doctors says they like to investigate if it's been over two years since the last period. I am waiting for an emergency appointment to go to the hospital. I will keep you informed. Thanks to all.
