I have only just got my BT line back again, the line runs trough lleylandii next door and every time there are high winds my line gets snagged /damaged and I lose phone and broadband 'till it can be repaired. This is the 3rd time in 18 months and I am getting sick fed up.She refuses to address the problem ,as they are council tenants I have also complained to them at least 12 times in recent years , have had umpteen wee men come out and all agree they have got to go but nowt happens...suggested imposing The high hedges act rules but because the trees technically belong to the council who are governed by budget this will be difficult to implement..any ideas before I throttle my neighbour or hire a chainsaw and do it..the trees are a good 40ft tall

does the council agree they should go? If they do then seriously an offer to the council to cover the cost might help?
Question Author
they agree they should go but it will be expensive as it will require cherry picker...my argument is that neighbour ought to have been keeping them in check and ultimately the council should cover cost I do pay council tax ..for what..their responsibility not mine
Question Author
quite aprt from the fact that this issue will have to be imposed as neighbour is just being difficult in refusing to even talk about the issue, as a tennent , if she asked they would most likely do it, but I am an owner occupier next door and hold no sway with council
Threaten to take the council to small claims court if they don't carry out the tree cutting for the cost of lost BT etc through the year and the cost to rectify the problem

that's a thought Islay, may talk to trading standards ta xx
It's the same with overhead electricity cables, Minters. The power company will regularly top any trees that are interfering with their cables.

I would contact BT's local engineering department. They need to be told that their wires are affected.. although, if they've fixed them before, they should know already. Press them to act.

BT say they are on a work sheet..but nowt happens they keep passing the buck !
That's about right for BT. Usually, BT and Openreach just blame each other.
One day, they'll get fed up with having the cost of repairing the line, and do something about it.
As a last resort, tell the local paper. They love a scrap like this. You know, one of those photos with you glaring and pointing at a tree ;o)

I would but my neighbour would kick off big time !!
Some years back my youngest son kept getting stung by wasps in our back garden. The nest was under a lleyandi tree in our back access lane to our garage. The line of trees (about 30) backed on to Council property but they didn't want to know about the nest or the rogue trees. I chukked a glass of paraffin into the hole where the wasps lived followed by a Bengal match. The tree went up like a Roman candle. Just saying. :-)

get done for arson as they are only a few feet from the house !!
Hi Murray, have you got a Garden Large Action Pump Sprayer? If so, fill up with either Creo / Degreaser, or a large does of weed killer and spray the Hedge, that will kill the headge, my next door now deceased neighbour had the same Issue with a Neighbour over the back from where she lived, the pensioner & her other neighbour spent £300 at that time to get them lopped, that worked for a while, that's until I chopped 6Ft off the dam things, he went ballistic, I said the problem has now been sorted hasn't it, his reply, I will sue you, my reply get on with it, never heard anymore.
Keep pestering BT. Don't try to kill the hedge.
That's a brilliant suggestion TWR and what about any wildlife or cats and dogs that may be in or near the trees?
Also stops cats c---r---p--p---I---n---- your garden.
Had you down as many things but cruel was not one of them TWR.
It works on nasty neighbours also.
Minty has a cat. She would be terribly upset if she got poisoned.
Keep cat indoors.
You can't just decide that you are going to kill off a neighbour's hedge. There will be a price to pay for that.
