I had a gastroscopy 6 weeks ago and was called back to have a biopsy done today. The first one I had no memory of it at all just remember being in the recovery room afterward. The one today was ,they couldn't complete it as I was retching and struggling and also trying to pull the tube out of my mouth. One each occasions I was given the same sedation I have been told. Why would the first time be ok but today wasn't ? They had to abandon it today and said they done think they can try to do another one .

Only one answer........the technique of the 2nd biopsy was not satisfactory either by the gastroscopist or the administration of the sedation ( if any).

the first one the sedation was injected in to the back of my hand, today it was put in my arm. Where the mark is in the fold of my arm , I cant even see a vein there. Even one of the nurses remarked that the sedation didn't even appear to have any effect on me.
Luck of the draw jasmin..;-)

Well if they couldn't get a biopsy, then it will have to be repeated perhaps with general anaesthesia.

jasmin....I would ask the Consultant why he didn't take the biopsy when he was "that way" 6 weeks ago.

I hope so Sqad, just read my notes and it says that I withdrew my consent ! hope that doesn't go against me getting seen by consultant again

jasmin.....I don't understand that.....you must have consented to the gastroscopy 6 weeks ago otherwise they would not have performed the procedure. The consent would also cover the biopsy...so.....why didn't they do the biopsy 6 weeks ago.
Question Author
The letter I have been given today after my appointment states on it that I withdrew my consent during todays procedure.

Question Author
that's my thoughts too Sqad but I am having so much bother with my stomach if the consultant thinks I refused the procedure today he may not see me again .
No, don't worry.......if a biopsy has to be taken...it has to be taken......and the Consultant would have some explaining to do should her refuse.

He won't refuse.
