Little Tiggs has had diarrhea for 3 days now. I thought it would just clear up but it hasn't. There is a lot of mucus with it as well but doesn't seem to be suffering form stomach cramps. I've called my GP so just waiting for them to call me back.

In the meantime does anyone know what this could be or what I can do to help.

How old is Little Tiggs?
Question Author
He'll be 4 in May Mrs O.
It could be one of many things and I am no expert so wait for the GP to phone. In the meantime the most important thing is to keep him from getting dehydrated.
Take a litre of water, add 3 teaspoons of sugar and quarter of a teaspoon of salt and make him have frequent drinks of it.
I hope the poor mite is soon better

Thanks Mrs O :o)

I've been giving him plenty of drinks and he's eating normally too.
I know I am an adult so its less worrying but i had this a couple of times while I was working in the nhs. The reason that I am posting is that both times they made me stay home and sent off samples and all that palaver. they never found a reason so put it down to "something viral" it was inconvenient but did clear up and I have never had it since.

I hope this is a bit reassuring :)

Just had a call and the GP said to continue with the fluids. He said if it persists for more than 6 days then I should get a sample tested.

How long did it last for each time, Woof?
Must have been about 10 days each time. I had to be out of work for about 2 weeks each time because of the 48 hours after last episode rule. it was a bit silly as no one else ever seemed to catch it or have had it and I felt perfectly well but I worked with elderly people and the rules were strict.
I was told that i could use loperamide to manage it but Occ health didn't want me to because they wanted to know that i was actually better and not just "stopped" with medication.

10 days, crikey! Thats a long time Woof. Poor you.

I hope this doesn't go on for much longer. Although he says he's fine I'm sure he's feeling quite sore.

actually I wasn't sore or anything...It wasn't very acidy burny.....just really really inconvenient and , as you said , very mucussy...
are we all enjoying our lunch?
Try giving him Dioralyte to help with dehydration.

Poor wee soul, I hope he's better soon.
Question Author
I made him an omelette for lunch. Hope the eggs act as a bit of a binding agent.

Thanks 2ps, so do I. My parents are on holiday so I can't leave him with them. I had to take a day off work today and if it carries on I may have to call in tomorrow as well as I can't take him to the nursery like this.
My daughter (18 months) has had it a couple of times and it lasted 5-7 days. I took her to the doctor both times but there is nothing they can do. Bananas, rice, apples and dry toast are supposed to be good for binding everything back together! Hope it clears up soon.

That sounds awful Soapnumpty. Poor baby :o(

I guess he'll just have to ride it out and if I have to stay at home with him tomorrow then so be it. Little Tiggs comes before work, especially as my parents are abroad. At least he'll be in the comfort of his own home.
