Was just wondering if it's ok to give blood if you are taking oral contraceptive (the pill)? Also, are there guidelines about drinking alcohol and giving blood? i.e should you not drink for 24 or 48 hours before giving blood? Thanks.

Loads of info here http://www.blood.co.uk

I am sure taking the pill is not a problem, as so many women do, but you can check by phoning(had a quick look on the site, but couldn't find an answer). As long as you turn up sober, alcohol is not a problem. If you are fit to drive say, you will be OK to give blood.

This is a list of people who can't donate and the pill isn't on there, so you should be OK. https://secure.blood.co.uk/c11_cant.asp

I'm sure I've read on the form under the question that says are you taking any medicine that the pill doesn't count.

Hi Laauurraa, glad you are giving blood. I have given blood over 25 times and even though I do not take the pill ( nor never likely to being a bloke)I have read the info many many times and you are fine.  Regarding the alchohol  as long as you are not pie eyed they will let you give blood, i have been to lunch and had a pint, told the donor nurses and they are more than happy for you still to give. Glad you are joining the select few.
