Feeling Funny When Going Up Stairs/steps

I am wondering if anyone can help me please. Every now and then when I go up stairs (not down!) I have a funny turn where it feels like the step is wobbly or loose, and I have to grab the rail. Medically speaking I would probably be descriibed as young, fit and healthy. It's very odd, and is only a fleeting sensation. It first happened about 3 weeks ago and has happened about once a week since then. It's quite worrying as I have never experienced anything like it before. I don't feel dizzy as such, but it feels like the step moves and my footing goes strange but in reality the step is flat and true. Does anyone have any idea what might cause this? Thank you.

Vertigo?
Low blood pressure?
I've had something similar and it turned out to be a middle ear infection. It was horrible while it lasted, but once I'd seen the doctor and got a prescription (I think it was Stemetil) it soon cleared up.

Hope you feel better soon.
No but I occasionally have a similar thing going downstairs! I always figured it was a balance thing.

Thanks for your replies. I'm not sure about vertigo, I certainly haven't ever had a fear of heights. But I am keeping open-minded. I wonder about a middle-ear infection and will bear that in mind.
If your hearing is normal, you don't have any discharge or pain, then a middle ear infection is not a consideration.

If you ate slightly deaf, then it may well be wax.

It doesn't sound a big deal, but let your GP just check for wax
I experienced a similar sensation about 20 years ago - it was put down to low blood pressure.

I'm going to the doctors tomorrow because it is a bit disconcerting...will let you know how it goes!
Will be interested.......thanks.
Could be inner ear infection. Painless, but affects your balance.
pixie........indie is describing transient and "fleeting" episodes, whereas inner ear involvement produces severe and debilitating attacks of true vertigo.
Ok. I have had it myself. I can't remember how severe it was to start with. But it did come and go a bit. Guess we'll see tomorrow.
Vertigo has NOTHING to do with heights, indie chick. I think that 95% of the population thinks that it does, so you are not alone!

Hmmm no joy I'm afraid, couldn't get a doctors appointment and I am travelling to see family over Christmas now so it might have to wait until the new year! Thanks for all your help and suggestions though, if I do ever find out I will try to remember to share. Happy Christmas! :)
Rising Damp?
If you are concerned, is there a walk-in centre at your local hospital?
I had a similar thing a few years ago. When sat down I had a feeling of falling of the chair. This was diagnosed as ideopathic vertigo which disappeared after a few weeks.

I have also educated myself on vertigo, I had no idea! You learn something new every day...
