My mother suffers from this. Doctor not really that understanding.
After advice such as would antibiotic therapy be helpful?
It says to increase the PH of the urine so does this mean drinking orange juice etc.
They also mention using an anaesthetic gel, has anyone tried this?
Mother diabetic though only diet only.
Any advice would be appreciated!!

///Doctor not really that understanding.///

Sadly this seems more and more prevalent these days. Such a pity because not only does it leave patients anxious, it lets down the profession where there are still thousands who are extremely sympathetic and understanding.
No, antibiotics wouldn't be of help.

Yes, increasing the pH of urine may well help...oranges and bananas.

I will give it some thought over the next 24 hours, but this is a difficult problem and the advice that you have been given is correct.

I am assuming that the diagnosis has been made by a Consultant Urologist.
Orange juice is more likely to lower the ph, as it is acidic.
A diet high in citrus fruits, vegetables, or dairy products can increase your urine pH.
A diet high in meat products or cranberries can decrease your urine pH.
pixie....it is acidic when it is swallowed, but after absorption and metabolised and excreted in the urine, it does bu99er all to the ph of the urine.
Fair enough, sqad. :-)
