If someone with this condition did no more than take co-codamol 30/500 and use a gel, would the hip gradually degenerate until a time came when they couldn't walk?

Thank you both for your pithy, and somewhat disheartening, opinions.
Does anyone know if they still make bath chairs?
Yes, they make bath chairs. Is this your sister? Is an operation not possible / helpful?
Is a hip replacement a possibility Sandy? I've had two and they gave me a new lease of life.

It is my sister, yes. She just won't consider a hip replacement. I don't know what this is doing to her but I feel all the stress involved here is taking years of my life.
Sandy please encourage her to see an orthopaedic surgeon re hip replacement. My mum had both hers done (Musgrave, Belfast) a year apart, and went from a housebound cripple to a vibrant, outgoing, unstoppable new woman. She is literally a different person. The pain relief she was taking before the ops was doing her more harm than good too. I fully appreciate the stress you feel as I felt exactly the same, mum took a lot of persuading and had every excuse - The waiting list is too long, I'll be dead before I'm seen, I'm too old (66!) In the end my brother and I paid for her 1st consultation privately (£150), money well spent.
