I've never had swollen ankles before til this last 2 weeks.

I have been to the GP and had my BP and heart rate checked. I also had a blood test 2 days ago and heard nothing back.

My poor feet feel so painful and tight. Apart from putting them up I know of nothing else to help.

Anyone got any tips please?

I think you can only really elevate them and rotate your ankles to get the circulation moving. Drink loads of water. I know you've been to the GP, but if you press your ankle, does the debt stay there?
Dent- not debt!

Thankyou pixie, yes it does so I know it is fluid. I am drinking loads of water always do in fact.
Yes, also your doctor might prescribe you water tablets. It might be worth making an appointment, although I assume he checked them when he saw you recently?
My Mum used to get this a lot. She was advised that if it wasn't too serious, to lie down and elevate her legs with a pillow under her ankles, for half an hour, but not to overdo it.
Combination of hot weather and inactivity..........they will settle.......no treatment needed as GP has excluded any organic cause.
My ankles were stupidly swollen and painful last night with the heat so got in and cooled down and got a cushion cube thing to put under my feet so they were raised about my head and a fan on them. They went down a lot overnight. Bit swollen again tonight but no much to do in this heat except keeping them cool, feet well supported and raise them when possible.
Mine have been OK this summer, but last year my feet and ankles were so bloated - the GP gave me diuretic tablets to take only when I needed them (they don't half make you wee!)

An update as it may be of interest to others.

I returned to my GP as the Blood test was fine but the feet so sore. Felt like I was walking on the bones but with sponges if that makes sense.

GP thought it might be caused by Amlodipine one of my BP meds, even tho I have been on them since 1997! I couldn't believe this to be the case.

However she may well be right. She recommended I stopped the Amlodipine for 2 weeks to see if the swelling went down. At her suggestion she has given me a prescription for an alternative medication if they do go down.

If they don't she says to go back and we will talk water pills.

Well, much to my disbelief, after 6 med free days I have ankles again. Even into todays extreme heat there is no swelling at all.

Some days to go yet but the outlook is good.

I wonder what side effect my many other meds are giving me.
