Hi my ankles are really swollen tonight and quite painful the only thing I can think of was I went to the theatre last night and sat for 3 hours and saw Macbeth it was wonderful and then tonight I went to the opera and sat for 4 hours and I had my legs crossed I am on warfarin so I am not worried about a dvt but I have taken 2 paracetemol but they are really swollen and sore I have type 2 diabetes I dont know if it is anything to do with that.

have you considered wearing decompression socks, the sort people wear on planes?
Any chance you're pregnant?
May well be due to sitting with them down. Can you have them raised to reduce swelling?

why don't you steep feel in lukewarm water with loads of salt. That is good and dry them off carefully - see if you some ease.

press your finger into swollen foot to see if indent holds = water retention. Medics on Abank can advise on treatment.
gordie.....nothing to do with your diabetes and you have put your finger on it when you described your activities over the past 48hours. It is almost certainly due to poor venous return from your legs (venous stasis) and will certainly settle.

Monitor the situation as the pain is an unusual feature.
as far as i remember, you are on a prophylactic dose of warfarin for af? That does not mean you can't get a dvt, although it's more unlikely. it's more your calf that swells for a dvt, and the fact that both asides are swelling means it's extremely unlikely yo be a dvt
