Can anyone recommend most effective pain killer for tooth ache? Also mouthwashes or whatever that will help. Thank you

Apparantly chewing on cloves helps.
Clove oil.
Ibuprofen or if really desperate whisky

Some people recommend a mouthful of whisky.
A bit more information please.
Is this "out of the blue?"
Have you lost a filling?
Is this the result of some recent dental treatment?

Thank you all very much. I went to dentist a week ago and had check up, everything was fine, and dentist said everything was fine too. But now I've had a tooth ache for four days and it's getting me down. I haven't lost a filling, so I guess it's "out of the blue", or maybe dentist did it by poking around too vigorously.

Ibuprofen 600mgms in one go (3*200mgms) and repeat every six hours if need be.
Whisky works for me.

Thank you all very much. I'm going to get all three; Ibuprofen, cloves and whisky.
All of the above are great but only in the short term - think you need to revisit your dentist.
I always have a tube of Oragel handy - its like a nervocane it numbs the gums - this is only a temporary measure .
as maggiebee says - back to the dentist.

Ha ha Connemmara, that's what I was thinking. He did it in the first place!

Of all the above suggestion, the two most appropriate ones are:
1) Ibuprofen (providing there is no reason why you cannot take them)
2) Return to your GDP for diagnosis and treatment
