At the middle of February was nearly £500. If the weather doesn't warm up soon the next one will be as bad. Are yours the same?

Ours was £650 and we've been using it more often:-(
We haven't had one yet just switched to e-on, but I'm hoping it wont be as bad as yours jeza, I suppose Mick will feel the cold, how is he doing? Mrask feels the cold he's on Warfarin permanently but we try not to use the gas fire unless we have to. It's been a long winter.
Yes- £500 for 3 months- and I'm a fairly careful user and am on the cheapest tariff available (having switched supplier in November).

On the positive side, we have just had our water bill. Before we had the meter installed in March we paid £70 a month. After the meter was installed it was reduced to £35 a month. We've just had the water meter read and (despite mrs factor liking a bath most nights) we are well in credit and the bill has been reduced to £28 a month.

Mic does feel the cold AYG. We do not have a fire, only radiators. He has a blanket on his legs most of the time, as it's his legs that feel the cold most.

We complained about our water cost to Yorkshire water but have been told because of where we live we cannot have a meter, so we have to pay £426.57. Scandalous IMO. Two old people with no one else living here. It makes me want to turn the tap on and just let it run. Before anyone has a go, I WON'T,I'm not made like that.
Woulodn't it be cheaper to just have the gas fire on in one room and keep the rest of the house at 15 degrees, than having the whole house heated to 18 - 20 degrees?

This is what I do.

Chrissa. We do not have a fire. We can afford the fuel bill. Just think that is a lot of money to keep warm.
I only have the temperature at 15-17 Celsius but the gas bill is still high. Maybe it's the heating of the water that keeps the bill so high in winter. Fortunately our energy bills are really low in the spring/summer period (whenever that will be)
Sorry Jeza. It's been a long day. Lol.

Chrissa, no apology necessary. I would love a gas fire. The only outside wall in the lounge is a window wall and underneath that is a large radiator. We do not have a chimney or fireplace.
We have oil central heating, £315 for 500 ltrs, lasts about 3 months in the winter, and we are so very frugal, only use it when we have guests and sundays. Electric £70 per month on direct debit, buit OVO electric say we are well in credit now. We have calor gas cooking, a bottle is £55 and lasts 3 months. So i suppose we are looking at £200 per month in the winter, and its cold here on the east coast of lincolnshire. Roll on summer!. But, we had snow, and more snow, frost, freezing fog, which turned the trees into fairyland. saw the first snowdrops, egrets fishing in the dykes, Hares everywhere. We moved north from sussex because it was too hot, it may be cold here, but its not a concrete jungle and the back to nature bit keeps us going. Wood burner next project.
Our gas bill is about £900 for the whole year - we have gas central heating, that's all.
Just got our electricity bill. From 6th Jan - 20th March is £398.
Just a couple of weeks ago I paid nearly £600 for 900lts.
I was shocked when I was back in Ireland. 92 euros for a gas bottle!!
given the continuing cold weather. id say everyones utilities bills will be higher this year :(
No one has mentioned making the house as energy efficient as possible. Do make sure that you have double glazing throughout, adequate loft insulation, insulated walls where possible & draught exclusion to all outside doors, then whatever heat you generate will remain in the property for as long as possible. All of these precautions will keep your energy consumption as low as possible.

WR.
Jeza, gas fires don't all have to go on outside walls nowadays, have a Google.
We are on a pre-payment meter, it costs us about £50.00 a week for gas and electric at the moment, the gas consumption goes down to about £10.00 a fortnight in the summer so we'll be saving £20- £30 a week then.
