My 10 year old son had been suffering from headaches, was quite lethargic, irritable and generally run down a couple of weeks back. We went to the doctors and she sent him for blood tests. I phoned up to get the results and the receptionist said a letter will be coming out about making an appointment with the doctor as she wants to see us following the results. They gave us an appointment in a couple of days time so I know it isn't anything urgent but just wondered if anyone had any idea what it might be? Someone suggested it might be his iron levels. What do you think? Thank you

All could be perfectly normal.......but....as a rank outside guess, in 10 year old boy it could be due to a blood problem.....but my money goes on "normal findings."

Thank you Sqad but 'blood problem' such as what, do you think? When all is well with blood test results they don't contact you and that's the end of it. So there is something they want to discuss and that is what I'm wondering, what it might be.
JOEY.........don't push me........all will be revealed in a couple of days.
I had anaemia when I was young - could well be that but if you have had the tests done, the results will soon be in - you have done the right thing and take heart in that.

Anaemia, if it is that, is no big thing to manage and treat - I started on "iron" injections and then had to eat rare liver (which I loved) and cod liver oil in the form of miniature rugby balls! The last time I had it was when I was 12 and post measles (coinciding with the Common Entrance exam). Fatigue had set in.....since then ok.

Been to see doctor today and she said he has high white blood cell count which is why he keeps getting recurring illnesses. She asked if we'd been to a foreign country (?) but I said we hadn't. Everything else was normal and as he's been a lot better in himself -no headaches, night sweats, hallucinating etc for a couple of weeks, so she thinks there isn't anything to worry about but that we must bring him back straight away should any of these happen.
Well played JOEY and thanks for the feedback............i was thinking about you this morning.
There are many causes for this, but although you haven't given us the exact WCC it could even be within normal limits or even physiological (not due to a diseased process)
