sqad or anyone in the know, I have been given pseudoephedrine to take three times a day, and cetirizine dihydrochloride once a day, neither of which i have taken as yet. My ears as mentioned have been blocked for nearly a month, with a heavy stuffed head feeling, pains side of my ear, down to my neck,
and movement of head brings on headaches sometimes, would either of these help, as feel so overwhelmed with medication currently. Can severe acid reflux cause the ear problems, because i have that in abundance.

one thing i need to know, would getting water in your ears say from washing hair, shower make things worse. If so are ear plus good for that, if so where do you buy them?
Nasal decongestants that you have been prescribed are the appropriate medication for Eustachian tube blockage and middle ear fluid.

Acid reflux rarely causes ear problems.
Getting water in your ears, as you describe, would have no effect on middle ear fluid, but might make the deafness worse, if wax is the problem.

Ear plugs/....waste of time.
I take cetirizine regularly for chronic rhinitis, and the nasal spray as required - so yes, these will help, but you'll have to take them regularly for good effect. Clearing all the goop in your sinus cavities will reduce the head pain and blockages.
Yes, em you were right on sqad's thread, I also have acid reflux. I thought it might be catarrh affecting it because I also have what I think is called a post nasal drip. So medication is not helping I see. Damn nuisance whatever it is and I hope for your sake (and mine) it goes away soon.

sqad, thanks, the acid reflux has become severe, i am aware of one thing after the other, but have been really unwell this time. Have omezoprole but doesn't seem to be doing anything, can acid wash right up to throat, ears, and beyond, as my back, round by the kidneys are going haywire, seems a bizarre thing to ask, but i have been going round in circles for so long. I did speak with the GP the other day and he gave me the two meds above. But they are as baffled as i am.
Have you been referred to a specialist, em? I would ask, if your GP is baffled.

my nose keep dripping, i keep blowing it, but what worries me more is the cough, take an in breath, then cough, up comes fluid. I was supposed to have a gastro appointment before christmas, but had to cancel as was so ill.

boxy, some stuff going on that makes no sense to me or them, so they treat what they think is appropriate, sadly some has made me worse, like the erymycin,
Might need micro suction. Ask GP.
Question Author
TTG, will that take my brain with it, because that seems to be malfunctioning at the moment, with a sense of perspective, humour meltdown
morning em, sqad, boxy,

i have a lot of problems with my ears and catarrh and i use ear plugs every night and have done for the past 8 years ish

the problems with your nose i have the same problems when i have a cold
em, erythromycin for me is an evil antibiotic, it goes straight through me like a rocket, I can't take that any more. (Mind, you - sorry sqad - ibuprofen has the same effect.)
Question Author
boxy, when i told the doc had chronic diarrhoea he said the erythromycin
can do that to you, wish they had mentioned that before i took it, full course as well, so boo to that
em if you ever try ear plugs make sure you get the yellow soft ones , the pink ones are hard and will hurt your ears i have just given a box of them away

DF, where do you get them, and do they stop water dripping into the ears, because that's what i need them for, at least until i can get to see the ENT consultant for him to have a look.
you can buy them off ebay, car boots etc

if you want to try them email me

em. you can get ear plugs at most chemists.
My ears are still blocked (and still coughing up fluid) after I had a cold come on just coming up for a month ago - I figured it was partly with having an underlying ear condition with the menieres that they've been more troublesome and I'm going to be patient and wait for them to sort themselves out. I've had a couple of moments when I thought they were breaking but they went back blocked. Had a few days a few weeks ago when one of them had a heartbeat (but faster) kind of pounding in it but then that just stopped. I'm running out of volume options now though! :)

Do you feel like you have a lot of air in your system? I feel like I do a lot which I put down to reflux/gallstones. If find when it's bad I get a headache and my ears bother me a lot more with pain and pressure and tinnitus and find it tends to calm a bit when I take some meds (also on omeprazole 40mg a day) and calm it down.

I have a prescription nasal spray for allergic rhinitis though I'm sure I remember my ear consultant that I wasn't meant to take it when I had a cold (with nose symptoms) so maybe best to check, sure sqad will know.

jenna, in a total frazz now, imagining all sorts, and getting nowhere.
some days it's enough to get out the house and do stuff, but this last month has been a bstard. Rotten cold came on so suddenly, then the vile coughing, and medication doesn't do much for my stomach, so probably upset that too.
Acid reflux much of the time, and don't much actually helping as yet.
My head is so fuzzy, ears seems to go clear, pop or make these noises then back to being fuzzy again, lovely ain't it.
If you are still awake like me, the anxiety has finally done it's stuff so can't sleep.
