For the last few days I've very aware of my heart beat, it seems as though it's beating louder than usual, also every so often it's doing a hard double beat. Should I be worried or see if it settles?

Get it checked out, you know its not normal it could be your blood pressure needs attention.

Yes get it checked as soon as possible,it may be nothing to worry about, but on the other hand you are obviously worried.
If you are not short of breath, no chest pain, then don' worry.

Thanks for your kind replies - I went to see the doc, he gave me a good 'going over'. He said all is fine and it could be the high dose of steroids I'm on that's causing my heart to race, got to cut them down a bit from tomorrow.
Hope you're begining to feel better Sqad - thanks again xx
Glad you've had the check, masma - the trouble is (and I know!) once you start noticing something like this, you notice it more than you did before.... I hope it settles down soon.
Masma....glad all was well and yes, I am improving thanks.

Anne - I did wonder if it was to do with stress as my boy had a blip, it drives me crackers worrying about him all the time. My SIL said she can't understand why I worry about him - I wish I didn't.
Sqad - I feel quite a fraud after what you've been through, thanks for your avice and get well soon xxx

Advice ^^^
masma, if you are a 'lady of a certain age' then it could be hormonal. lots of pre-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal ladies suffer from this, myself included. it can be like this for a few weeks, then stop, then start, then stop for months, then start again.....
if you think it could be that, then google 30 menopause symptoms and you'll be able to read all about it.
masma, im sorry to hear about the blip, is he back on track ?

ethandron - I'm well past all that malarky thank goodness, doc said it could be the steroids I'm taking. I cut down the tablets today but don't really feel much better.

Anne - He's not too bad at the mo, we went away for one night and when we got back he was well tiddled. Denied having anything to drink but as I said to him "I ain't stupid" I can read him like a book!

Thanks again to all for your replies and for caring xx
