do anyone on here know anything about alpha 1? my brother had a collasped lung twice going back a few yrs ago now. shortly after this he was dionosed with alpha 1 and they said he was born with it and to get this it has to come from your parents. he mentioned it too his parents and my dad already got emphazemia so he wasnt tested but my mum never did get tested. then recently my mum got rushed into hospital with a collasped lung now after her lung collasping 3 times in 11 days i wondering could she have either alptha 1 or atleast be a carrier. i read online that alptha 1 comes from both the parents genes and cant just come from one. no one has told the doctors its in the family and my dad just gets annoyed when i bring it up to him. sorry if this dont make sence peeps. very concerned and confused. any help would be great.x

thanx so much ill have a good read.x
If there isn't enough information on that site you could just google alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, there are lots of sites that have information and resources.

ive done that and it from what ive read u gotta have both parents being carriers to get a child born with it. this would explain alot with my mum not being able to gain weight at all and her constant liver problems she gets too.
You could mention your worries to your own GP and ask if you can be tested for the condition. If there is a family history of collapsed lungs and lung disease then i'm sure the doctor would be happy to refer you for testing.

You can inherit the condition from just one parent (my dad in my case), it can be both but often isn't.
