I went to my one and only and last barn dance on new years eve.The music was
terrible. I only went out of politeness to a friend. Food was good though. Did you do
anything naff on new years eve?
They used to hold then at the Church Hall in Ormskirk and we used to go once a year and there was Hot Pot, proper good it were too, I went in a black mini skirt and red patent platform shoes when i was about 14, I had a feathered cut too (poat skin head) and a crombie jacket, I remember it really clearly, my sister (18 months older than me) was dressed like a right tart.
I had to sit with my mother in law - everyone else went to a party but the miserable old bat wouldn't go. Her conversation consisted of:
I want a bath running/towels must be warm/make me a cuppa/have you any sweet sherry/I'm hungry/make me another cuppa/have you put my electric blanket on/pass me those chocolates/make me another cuppa/have you any whisky to go in the cuppa/make me a sarnie/where have all your chocs gone - pass me one of the kids selection boxes/make me another drink/turn the heating up/make me another cuppa/turn the heating down etc etc etc......for four bloody hours!
I'd been to Newcastle-upon-Tyne shopping and fell asleep about 7:00 p.m. Kept waking up and dozing off again until I threw in the towel, sometime after midnight.
