I have come on here to moan. I have never been as badly affected as I am this year. Sitting here with red streaming eyes, a persistent runny nose and a thumping headache. I have changed over from Clariton to Piriton on the advice of the pharamacist. Why is it so bad this year?

because we had proper weather...cold winter snap, warm wet spring, warm summer. Everything has grown by leaps and bounds, my roses are lovely and my grass is a real pain in the a....derriere because it has grown so much
Poor you lottie. I used to suffer from this terribly. In the end no prescription would do much for it so I turned to a natural product

I found this particularly helpful because they gently ease all the rotten symptoms and you can repeat the dose as often as necessary.
Try making up 2 teabags - let them cool and place on your eyes - don't wring them out too much lottie. Extremely soothing

Thanks both. I am going to try the tea bags ttfn. The eye drops have made things worse.
Lofty...I do not know why it is so bad this year BUT;

Changing from an antihistamine with less drowsiness as a side effect, reduces it anti-histaminic effect. Greater the drowsiness, the greater the effect on your hay fever. Consider staying on Phenergan and suffer the drowsiness.
The other option is an injection of a depot steroid....Kenalog or depot Medrone.

Don't forget to remove the teabags first ...............

Thanks everybody. And special thanks to Sqad for his advice. I think I might have to stay dozey for a while (even dozier than normal). Have had lunch and am now going to go to sleep for a while. I just feel really horrible.

My skin is blotchy too tinkerbell and quite sore. My eyes haven't stopped streaming all day. The drops honestly have made them worse.

Will consider an injection Sqad if it continues this way.
Damn awful year for it... I've had it since I was a kid and I've grown out of it alot. This is the first year in ages I'm taking tablets, eyedrops and nose sprays every single day and sometimes twice a day! In the past years I've got by on eye drops and nasal spray on an 'as and when' basis.

Still... I'll keep it if it means I can keep the lovely weather :c)
I think quite a few of us are struggling this year so I sympathise Lottie. Mine has most definitely been worse since moving up north!

I usually have to take tablets, eye drops, nasal spray and a nasal balm! Lol it is a tad ridiculous. Every year I forget exactly which type of tablet works for me and end up having to try them all - I should really writ it down.

Wish there was a cure!
Local honey is supposed to build up your imunity to the pollen. Al so recent research has found that the bacteria in probiotic yoghurt helps to fight hay fever too.
I have tried local honey and the first time you take it your hayfever goes into over-drive (it really is awful) and then the next day it really calms down. Couldn't get any local honey this year (a problem with the bees) so I have been using Asda own-brand (87p for a week's worth) and they are brilliant.
Try Wilkos own brand 80p per packet. Does a good job.

I have surfaced! The Piriton has helped things a lot, but I am not going out today. Yesterday was diabolical. I had to just go to bed (with cold tea bags on my eyes). The eye drops hurt so much and I just couldn't see. Today I just have a stuffy head and feel a bit drowsy and lack lustre.

Thanks for all the advice.
