Hi everyone. I'm having a spiral perm done at home by a mobile hairdresser later this week. My hair is shoulder length and very thick. Any advice on what I should watch out for? Someone told me the stylist will need special "corkscrew" type rods to do it, but when i asked her she said no, she just uses ordinary ones.
I haven't had a perm for many years, but when I was younger I used to have them regularly- mullet style!! - (I'm quite an old laydee now!), but they always "took" very well.
Any tips on what I should + shouldn't do?
Many thanks, Bath x

No advice for me then?
I'd assume that the hairdresser should know what she's doing, if youre worried that she may do it wrong then I would opt for a reputable salon or get a recommendation from someone who has had this type of perm.

I havent heard of anyone having a perm in a long time so Im not clued up Im afraid.

Couldnt you achieve the same look with heated bendy rollers without damaging your own hair as much ?

Are you sure you want to go for a perm? Straight hair is very fashionable at the moment? I know what you like about curly hair I used to love the idea of curly hair when I was younger. Each time I see CSI NY and CSI Miami there is one woman in each programme that has the most beautiful natural spiral curly hair. I thought they were the same woman at first.

p.s sorry I forgot to mention they usually use these very thin rollers if I remember. I am going back about 20 years ago, so methods could of changed

Hi Jenga. Yep, I've made my mind up, + the hairdresser has just phoned to confirm she's coming tomorrow, so no backing out now! I don't really care what's in fashion to be honest, + as my hair has a natural curl anyway I'm hoping the whole look will be as natural as possible. Wish me luck! xxx
Good luck for tomorrow. If your hair has a natural curl anyway then it should be fine. Mine is dead straight and does not curl for longer than 5 mintues.
Good luck for tomorrow! I have naturally curly hair and its just nice being different from the current trend.

Let us know what you think of it once its done !

Ah bless you both! Yeah, I'll let you know! I might not be leaving the house for 6 months if it's a disaster, so I'll have lots of time on me hands for chatting!! xxx

Hi weeal + Jenga. Quick update as promised- perm completed + I love it! Look a bit like Charles II at moment, but apparently in a couple of days I can shampoo + condition it then experiment with styles. She used ordinary perm rods (some pink, some yellow, + a few white). It took 2 and half hours to wind them all in! I'm delighted!! Thanks for caring!! xx
hey curly top lol

excellent, glad it was a success, cos u have thick hair it will probably last for yonks, enjoy and have fun styling your new locks
