I've done it before and it works well. I only have quite a small size ghd and wrapped my hair round the plates (keeping pinkies well away from the plates) so it was coiled round. Left it for a bit and then pulled the plate away to release the hair (quickly) and you get a curl. My friend is mega at curling hair with them...she did mine once and I couldn't believe it, was excellent.
Ive always wondered why people use straighteners to curl, arent hot brushes or tongs better? or is it just so you only have one gadget instead of two. I have curly hair so I dont have to curl.
Hi weeal :)...I guess that if you get the same finish then you may as well go with the one product (GHDs) to save from two purchases. THey do work very well and leave a lovely ringlet kind of curl. I really like them - plus they heat up so quickly some of the curlers etc don't....
hi beads, sounds like they might even TAME mine then, I might give it a go
Good luck weeal - they're pretty expensive though so see if you can try some out first (friend/hairdresser)... :)
when my hairdresser curls my hair with the GHD's she gets an inch wide piece of my hair, runs the straightener down it, then, while the hair is still hot she twists it with her fingers to create a loose, but long lasting curl that looks a bit more natural than the very structured ringlet-type curls you get from using the GHD like a curling tong. I have quite long hair, though. not sure if that makes a difference.
I find curling my hair with GHD'S quick and easy- faster than tongs etc and just as good, I 'd say. I take about an inch of hair, clamp the straighteners on it, twist the straighteners180 degrees (sort of so the ends of your hair go upwards) and pull it down the length of the hair. Needs practice, but can give great bouncy curls when done properly. Also, GHD'S are good because you can easily control how tight you want the curls- for looser waves, don't twist the straighteners so much. Hope this helps!
