My 13 yr old grandson will be round for dinner tomorrow. He had braces fitted yesterday and they are causing a lot of pain.  I was going to do steaks but now need to make some soft food. What can I serve to go with, perhaps some mash?  Any suggestions gratefully received.  Thanks.

Sausage egg and beans

Spaghetti Bolognese.

Mince with carrots and mash

Will he eat fish?   Plain baked cod with mash and peas - and maybe a parsley sauce?

Thanks for your suggestions. I think sausages may be a hard to chew through.  Probably eggs and beans won't put much pressure on his teeth.  Wonder how long the braces/teeth will hurt him.

Question Author

He likes salmon so maybe fish would go down easily with little chewing.

Salmon steaks are nice and soft.

macaroni cheese slips down easily.

Spoilt for choice now.  Don't know how long the pain will last so might be using several of the suggestions.  Thanks to everyone for your help.

Why don't you just ask him what he would like ?

my experience at that age was two to three days plus a diet of aspirin....

Not spaghetti bolognese. It ends up hanging from the braces in a most embarrassing way.

andres - it's not just a question of what he would like, he eats most things, but by the time he comes here from school, I need to have things ready.
